Hi @mfhorn, Quote: At what point, or year, is considered old in Canada? Surely the 1937 & 1954 series are considered old, but what about beyond that? In Canada all banknotes have been switched to polymer. Therefore, all of the previous banknotes that were made of paper are being collected at banks and sent back for disposal.

@Enyaw;
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I knew Canada had switched to Polymer, but until recently I didn't know they were taking the paper from circulation. I have been putting a type collection of the more recent ones together (from the '70's), and am finding this out. I had already acquired the '37 and '54 series several years ago. Would you happen to know of some dealers, either in Canada, or here in the States that have a decent inventory of Canadian notes?
Thanks Again!

I have had great luck with Colonial Acres coins. If you need help contact me & I can also make some other suggestions too. Quote: At what point, or year, is considered old in Canada? Surely the 1937 & 1954 series are considered old, but what about beyond that? 1935 series is highly sought after as it only lasted a mere 2 years! Several denominations are short & hard to get in original grades higher than VF. For some time before (& during 1935) Canada had many Chartered banks issue notes but that's a huge "ball of wax" & I won't touch the subject b/c I've made a point of ignoring them. Molson's Bank & the Imperial Bank of Commerce were big hits for collectors. Before that, you're looking at Dominion of Canada (or ( DOC) which were large-formatted "horseblanket" notes. These can get very expensive in any grade with decent eye appeal. I also had a couple of great orders come from Allen's Coins of Ohio. I never bought BoC (didn't need to) but their World notes I ordered were fairly graded (perfectly packaged & each note in an individual banknote sleeve). I made 2 very large orders from them. http://store.allensinc.com/canada-c1856.aspxGood luck in your pursuit!

Thanks for your info. I have no intentions of going any lower than the '37 series. I have always liked the Canadian paper money. They seem change just about everything on their notes every few years, unlike the US which didn't see a change until 1996. I am not in a hurry to find the bills I want. I'm not sure I like the polymer notes though. I know they are supposed to last longer, but they feel "Cheap" to the touch. Is counterfeiting a problem with them?

Is counterfeiting a problem with them? -No, that's why they were introduced (to prevent counterfeiting). The Original Canadian Journey series was Canada's most copied: https://goccf.com/t/417980

We could have had better designs on the poly notes, the Swiss verticle poly are quite nice as with other nations, Fuji ect, they are long lasting much harder to counterfeit

Update, I decided to get the 1937 G-T $50 I got from the bank certified and was pleased with the result. My 1937 C-T $50 came back at the same grade too.
