I have an AG3 1885-CC. It's a reminder that before GSA this was the rarest of the CC Morgans.

Wowza, that's a beauty! Congrats on the purchase! It's a historic coin and the GSA Hoard always adds an appeal. I don't collect Morgans but I appreciate their beauty. My goal is to one day add a circulated CC Morgan to my collection.

Very nice. You are quite a connoisseur of Morgans. This post caused me to go back and read about the GSA Hoard story which is good history for us here.

Quote: This post caused me to go back and read about the GSA Hoard story which is good history for us here. It's also a reminder that Americans' refusal to use a dollar coin really predates the Washington one dollar note. Maybe the refusal to use dollar coins in the 19th century are different to reasons now, but I do think there's an emotional (and irrational) attachment now to the dollar bill. It's nuts to me that even today billions of one dollar coins sit unused. I wonder if the metal in modern dollar coins will ever prompt a "sale" of the ones from recent decades akin to the GSA sale of Morgan's.
Do not read this sentence.
