Why did someone grade this..

Most likely it was in a group of coins from a collection that all got graded for auction.

AU straight (I don't think this - the hint makes me believe it is in a straight holder)

No, not a straight grade - but I was wondering if anybody saw any "Damage" - or is the toning being called the damage?

"Damaged"? That's an interesting use of that term.

I'm guessing there were so many issues at hand that damaged was the easiest explanation.

Care to explain? All I see is some AT.

Throat, nose, cheek, ears, and fields - I think that all outweighs the bad toning job. TPG's will always use the lead offender.

IMO it looks like it spent time in a gravel parking lot beforehand. Apologies for being harsh if this is your coin, but yeah, I think in this instance DAMAGE means scratches, gouges, etc...

Oh, that's ok, I was just trying to see how they posted damage instead of Cleaned/retoned. I picked this up at auction for cheap and gonna use it in an AT album I'm attempting to put together.

Who knows how they ultimately rank issues but I imagine they assume the toning effort was to hide the damage. Likewise, I would assume most ATs that were CLEANED would be detailed as cleaned.
