CACG was conservative on this one and called it a XF45. I personally think this one is an AU50. Super happy though, this is a tough one to get original.

Your example is a strong XF 45 for the grade. There was a XF45 PCGS that sold at Stack's in June 2025 for $780 and your example is better. I could only find one graded by CACG at XF45 in their pop report, so that must be the one that you own.

The price guides list as follows for a XF45 1873:
CAC $675
NGC $700
PCGS $800

If you do not mind, what did you pay for your example?

Just like MS60, AU50 to me says: "butchered coin".
Yours is much nicer, so I think XF45 is right on the mark.

As with CAC Seated Liberty dollars, CAC Trade dollar price guides are way off. The closest comp I had was an 1873 PCGS CAC XF45 that sold for $1020 at HA in March as part of the Old Chelsea collection (https://coins.ha.com/itm/trade-doll...3325-92149.s ). I thought this example was a bit stronger, and closer to AU than that example. I paid $1050 for mine.

I bid on a couple of CC dates in Old Chelsea collection of Trade dollars. The entire collection of Trades were PCGS XF 45's CAC. Did not win any bids. I was the under bidder on the PCGS XF 45 CAC 1876 CC that sold for $2100. The coin was dark, so I backed off.

I was the under bidder on the 1873-S from that collection, which went for crazy money. 3x guide. I just couldn't go any higher on it. I did snag the 1876 though.
