Just a quick look shows 100 Billion Shield Business Strike Cents were made since 2010. Now surely you can't tell me those are all in albums - and don't call me Shirley - maybe disintegrated........

I have a 'small' hoard of ~MS62-65 memorial/2009/shield cents--perhaps 6K total pulled from roll hunting over the decades.

Quote:Over in England, I have over 700 spare Lincoln Wheat cents and over 400 spare non-Lincoln Wheat cents. Not counting the two Lincoln Cent sets that I am working on. Quote: Need 4 wheat cents to complete one set and 7 to complete the second set with at least two in that set that should be replaced by better coins. Good luck!

Quote: Nickels and 20 cent pieces are almost the same diameter. Just change "Five" to "Twenty" on the back of a nickel, round totals to the nearest dime, and be done with the seigniorage problem for awhile. And everyone quadruples their money when their old nickels are spent or deposited as double-dimes! I knew I was hoarding them for a reason.

The whole conversation shows the result of decision making by "Tweet." When Canada eliminated the cent in 2012, they published an "action plan" not only explaining why but what should be done moving forward (i.e. for cash transactions rounding up or down and for electronic or check transactions the original total). Unfortunately, in the US, the President "Tweeted that he was instructing the Treasury Secretary to stop producing pennies" and the Treasury Secretary later indicated that the Mint would not be buying planchets for cents after the last order was filled and producing them until the planchets are used up.What that means, no one really knows. That is why there was a discussion on the forums about 2026 cents. The good news is, there is legislation proposed in Congress to clarify what this all means and to codify rounding up and down. The legislation is necessary to clarify all of this and codify rounding so it is universally consistent.

https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/IN125723 of the 4 were referred to committee at the beginning of the year and nothing has happened. H.R.3074 was reported out (revised) by committee on 9/4 and has gone nowhere because the House is AWOL. https://www.congress.gov/committee-...e-report/235The amended version turns the nickel into a clad zinc/nickel coin. The cent? Quote: (bb) Elimination of One-cent Coin.-- (1) In general.--Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Secretary shall cease production of one-cent coins for general circulation, but may continue to produce and issue one- cent coins for sale as numismatic items. (2) No effect on legal tender.--Any one-cent coin that is minted and issued on any date before the date of the enactment of this subsection shall remain legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues.

I have a coffee can full of 1960-1982 Lincoln cents, they weigh 23 pounds. They haven't been searched. I know because I'm the one that collected them. They were taken from circulation from 2006 until 2015. What should I do with them?
If I do nothing with them, one day my daughter will inherit them. She will decide that they're a 23 lb. pain in the rear end and give them to the first person that will haul them away.

Here's a proposal... Every member who feels compelled to offload their hoard of Lincoln cents (those that aren't high value) should donate them to the upkeep of the CFF. Fill Ziploc bags or plastic water bottles and send them to bobby131313.

Quote: I've got an idea - how about copper coated zinc planchets? Quote: The amended version turns the nickel into a clad zinc/nickel coin. No! No! A thousand times, NO! Did we learn nothing from the zincoln? We need not repeat this mistake of the past with a zefferson!
