I think enforcing the rules of the venue is completely fair, as long as it is done consistently.
I also think that folks who want to have reasonable discussions about these subjects are well-intentioned but completely naive. I am forced to deal with a number of highly polarized blue and red people in my family, church, and social circles. As a practical, relatively non-polarized person, I simply recognize that you cannot hoist a pointy conductor during a storm and not get struck. A few of those people are like a balloon praying for a pin; they genuinely cannot wait for an excuse to climb up on their soapbox and get rolling.
I think it feels unfair to "reasonable" people when they are sternly warned not to hoist that metal stick. Their argument is that the unbalanced people causing the lightning discharge should be the parties penalized. Honestly, they're not entirely wrong about that. But the job of moderators—which is constantly misunderstood by the Internet—is not to serve as a justice system to punish the polarized people for derailing threads. The job of the moderators is to prevent unpleasant discharges, often by forbidding users from hoisting pointy metal sticks.
Under ideal circumstances where all people behave, should a respectful conversation on these subjects be possible? Sure. In an ideal world, I should be able to leave my gas cans in plain sight next to my shed overnight. In reality, those gas cans will be gone by morning, if not tonight, then right soon enough. Theft is indisputably wrong. But leaving your gas cans in plain view overnight is also poor judgment. Even if something isn't illegal or morally wrong, it can still be foolish. Bobby is the forum dad, and he gets to tell people not to be foolish, and make rules forbidding poor judgment. Ideal? No. But fair.

Full agreement here.
As a trusted Moderator I'll do my best to be fair - but we are not going to allow the CCF to be fractured by political divineness based on current events.
This is a valued forum about coins - let's keep it that way.

I'm a member on a paper forum that allowed political posts, it got so bad that a moderator was banned (he came back to spam the forum) and there were open threats against certain members. While there will always be some politics involved in coins (like ending the Lincoln Cent), its better to just leave the current political climate out of these threads. Honestly I don't envy the moderators, I used to be one and lately any political disagreements will blow up, its just easier without it.

Thank you so much Bobby and Mods totally on all above points, coins only, politics on who's right and who's wrong can please be taken elsewhere We all have political opinions and some rather strong ones at that here at the , but this is clearly not the forum to discuss those kinds of things (possible exceptions?)... Here on the great and awesome worldwide , I am politically neutral as I don't go there as I enjoy everyone's presence and collections regardless of where one stands. I am a coin enthusiast who loves to share my hobby with others around here. Keep it up Bobby and Mods; you are all awesome

I whole heartedly agree with the policy of not allowing volatile political topics to be posted on the Coin Community Forum and commend the moderators for keeping it free of such matter.
Indeed, the topic in question is volatile and discussions about it derail almost immediately if allowed to fester.
However, I disagree with the removal or locking of entire threads when unacceptable posts are discovered when, to the best of my knowledge, moderators are able to remove individual posts within a given thread.
The topic, as politically volatile as it is, has numismatic aspects worthy of discussion like any other coin.

You know dam well we can, because you brazenly and backhandedly tried to start the conversation back up right here in this topic, and we removed it. When you fork out the time and dough to own and run your own forum, run it however you see fit. In the meantime, we'll run this one how we see fit.
