hhbkiddo,

Congrats! You received some really decent to nice older and some really nice newer Nickels! Many of the Nickels are worth much more than just a mere Nickel and you might even have some tough to find...collectible Varieties. You need to get at the least the following books and references: "The Official RedBook A Guide Book of United States coins", "The CherryPicker's Guide to Rare Die Varieties" - Fourth Edition, Volume One and Coin World's - Coin Values Magazine. Learn the basics of grading, determine the grades of each coin, check each coin for Die Varieties such as RPM's (Repunched Mintmarks) and Doubled Dies, then determine the values based on their' grades and any that are Varieties.

Good luck!

You said you were 'not about to investigate them" .... sooo .... My input for you ..... based on your photos .... that 1938-D might be worth a few bucks, the various 1939 if truly UNC might be worth a few bucks .... and the rest are commonly found today in circulation.

I see no War Silver (1942 thru 1945) and no 'key' except that 1938-D.

Unless you plan to start a Jefferson collection ..... not much here to brag about IMHO.

Maybe one of the members here will trade you for some old Canadian's?

Best

David

Hello Frank,
I am not into US coins at all. These came with a bunch of canada Coins... some very good ones I might say. You can rest assured if they were Canadian... I would know whats ok and what is not.
there are over 200 nickels, maybe even some silver.
the same lot also contained some lincoln and Indian Head cents...
if someone wants to make a proposal. (am not sure if one is allowed to ask this or not, without gettig reprimanded by the gods)
if not anyone can always contact me directly.
My preferrence is to sell the whole lot.. and spend it on a nice, really nice bottle of wine.

hhbkiddo,

Why don't you post them in the Trade Forum?! You could give the number of each Denomination, Series and Type, provide a link back to this Thread for pictures of the Nickels and post pictures of everything else. Note what you are looking or what price you will take.

I have had some really nice tough Date Canadian Large Cents, Nickels and Dimes in the past but they tend to sell pretty fast around here.

You could always post them in the auction area also. Start them out at face value and let the bids go up from there. I don't have any Canadians but I would be interested in putting a bid on them as I know there are several other nickel collectors here that would do the same. Charge shipping as needed. You come out ahead, someone here gets what they need and you get rid of what you don't want and get some money in return to spend on what you want. Just an idea.

Not a single " War Nickel" containing "35% Silver" in the whole batch !
And other than the '38 D, I would just go "face value" or a little more perhaps after a closer look.
However, someone looking to fill some holes in their Jefferson album/folder may be interested.

some of the higher grade 38's and 39's have value over face as well.

I am locking this thread. It has become a buy/sell/trade issue and should be posted in the B/S/T forums.
