WOWZERS!

yeah when I added up the values at todays prices it added up to a little over $24,000.00 and I couldn't believe that. I know I couldn't sell the album for that but it was nice to see coins I paid 600.00 for be worth $1,600.00 now

Wow. Every time I spend time here, I find something else I want to do. I really would like to start a 7070 set. I wonder how long it has taken some of you to get to where you are in your sets.

It's been a while since I've visited this thread. Thank you so much for the kind words everyone!
And Moe, the way you've been going lately, your set will surpass mine here soon! More power to you...I just can't get enough of watching everyone build their type set, so keep posting! Anyways, I have added the 1853 seated half with arrows, and have henceforth updated my pictures at the beginning of this thread, as well as the title. Down to only 3 coins now! Two of them being the Seated dollars, and then the classic head large cent kicker. That one will probably be the last one I buy...lol. I also put in page 5, which wasn't photographed before.

I've completely reorganized my gold type set, as it keeps expanding beyond what one Dansco can hold. It is in a completely different Dansco album now, that has two gold pages. I have all of the regular US type coins on the first page. The second page holds the classic head $2.5 and $5 coins. It also holds a $5 proof commemorative. On the top far right, I have a 1794 spanish escudo that grades about F-12 in the $2.5 indian slot. On the top left, I have a mexican 2 peso, and 2.5 peso gold coin in the gold dollar slots.

On the back cover I have the gold coins that I'm unwilling to deslab. I have my AU-50 type 2 gold dollar, AU-55 $3 gold piece, and my MS-62 50 cent gold fractional velcroed to the cover. As you can see, the slabbed coins are easily removable from the cover so that you can see the reverse. The velcro is strong, so I don't worry about them falling off.

Wait....Hold on.....

...

Sorry I had to get a mop to clean up my drool!

I just started my type set at the beginning of the summer and can only aspire to a set such as yours! I too love the gold coins! It is too bad that they cost an arm and a leg. That isn't going to deter me from doing the gold page but certainly slows the process up considerably.

How long have you been working on this set Johnny?

Thanks Cownas! I've been working on it for about a year and a half now. I also collect Lincolns, but this has been my main focus which has taken up probably 85% or so of my collecting funds. I started with gold, and branched out into other types. Gold is expensive, but the upside is that many of them can be had for small premiums over melt in a decent grade. I feel more comfortable spending larger amounts of money for numismatic items that have value beyond just it's value as a collectible. I've considered pursuing a collection of high denomination US notes for that very same reason(they can always be spent at face value).

I will say that type set collecting is way more enjoyable than just about anything else I've attempted to collect in my 28 years on this earth. It is just simply THAT addicting in my opinion. It's also good, because I've learned a lot about a variety of US coins. My ultimate goal was to get all Dansco types in AU or better, but some types are just too expensive that way....that's why we have our moderator Bryan's set to gawk at. :-P XF or better is a reasonable compromise.

Anyways, I've seen you post a lot of great type coins, keep em coming! :-) Are you going to include your classic head gold coins in the 7070?

johnny-I plan to include the classic head coins in my type set. Since they are the oldest type that can be had for a decent price tag. I just have the quarter eagle right now, but will add the Half Eagle when the funds allow. What does your Classic Head Half Eagle Grade? I am looking to get one in the XF-40 range to keep it under a grand.

Being 21 and on a College Students Budget makes this set a daunting task. So far I have been able to get 3 $2.50 types and a Liberty Half Eagle. The next coin in my sights is the Liberty Head Double Eagle. I plan to finish the gold page first then move to Seated dollars the down the food chain.

Your set is inspiring. Hopefully by the time I am your age my set can come close.

BTW I love the Spanish Escudo.

Wow, you're young! Way to go starting early! I barely knew what a gold coin looked like at 21. Neither of my classic head gold coins quite make the XF cut, although both are really close. If I upgrade them to XF, I will be leaving them in the slab. However, they are both better dates....and have very small surviving populations. My 1837 $5 gold was graded ANACS VF-35

Which other slot besides the Seated $1 No Motto?

I'm down to one slot left on mine - the Twenty Cent Piece. Then the upgrades begin...

Congrats Johnny! You are very close now. What grade are you going for with the classic head large cent?

The Classic head large cent scares me...lol. Even XF is crazy expensive, and I'm not a huge fan of this coin type. I haven't really decided, but I may just go for a raw slightly problematic XF.

Congrats Kenkat!

Very nice. I have a grand total of 16 coins in mine. All are coins that I have had for some time and most will need to be upgraded. I really like your halves.
