That's interesting. My Charest book here lists the weight as 2.36g. I just weighed a 1946 10c in AU50 as 2.35g. I would guess that 2.3g is within tolerance of a scale. However, I do note a difference in the 7 digit between the two coins shown above. If I had a 1947 10c, I would post a pic of mine.

Yotie,
That's where I'm scratchin' my noggin because the coin is really close to true weight, which suggests an alloy close to the real thing. Also, in that grade it might go for $15 in Canada, or USD $12. Cheap coin + small collector market = die-struck copy? Dunno.

so its not a $100 coin
he must have made 1000's of them to be worth anything
and you tell the fake when compared to a real one

What evidence do you have that it is a fake?there si NO reason to make fake 1947s in VF 20, perhaps 30.
it is just not worth it commercially.
AND, one thing is for sure.... THE chinese would not waste their time on a low end coin...
takes the same effort to make 1946 5 cent.....
I vote for NO GO.
Why... it is a long story...maybe not so long... but, I can show you things of discrepeny on other NFL coins....and........... NOBODY cares...
answer from one of these so called experts closely connected to ICCS and CNN and CHarlton: maybe they used another die!!
another, perhaps unknown die? with the typical Bejing marks?/
one has to wonder.... psssssst secretly.

The individual teachs about Counterfeit coins. Has been the ONE resposnsible for getting the Gov't and RCMP to react both with ebay and the Chinese Gov't. I take his work and word as gospel. Unlike others........ he freely and willingly teaches and disseminates information. OH YEAH...he just donated 117 counterfeit coins to the RCMP. Once the markers for the 47 are complete, I believe he is donating them to the RCMP as well. Perhaps you have read CCN or the World Coin News. The dates of the Newfoundland 10 cents are 1938-1947. All 9 coins. Go figure. The existance of these coins was mentioned approx. 2 months ago on another website. Since the Chinese would not waste there time with them..... and hhb, the careful comment was when purchasing these via electronic means i.e. ebay. Do not attempt to twist my words.

"there si NO reason to make fake 1947s in VF 20"

Coins like this aren't intended for the collector market. They are sold as novelties to tourists for a low price. Likely they and many others can be bought in quantity in Asian and other countries around the world where tourists regularly flock to. You can imagine that some vendors have buckets full of replica coins from many countries that they sell to tourists. I am suspicious though that some of these replica operations are just a front for counterfeiting modern day coins used in circulation. And apparently millions of modern day coins are being counterfeited and put into circulation each year. This has always been a problem, but it just may be a much bigger problem right now.

coinsurfin..
I did NOT try to twist your words...: NOTE, I never do!!
just trying to say that it is in fact illegal for anyone in canada to posess any counterfeit canadian coins. Even for that person whom's name we all know and highly respect.
Please also note: the RCMP can not allow him to keep these coins if it is in fact established that he has them, UNLESS a Court/Judge says he can do so for the purpose of whatever.
Trust me, I am all for getting rid of fakes ans stopping them and have done mt part on this with some well known people in the coin collectors industry.
Perhaps some day soon we will have a hopefully interesting discussion about other canadian fakes and, more important, that NOBODY cares about it...or perhaps just a very few pretend to care.
As I write this, I could point you to an ebay listing of a large common, expensive canadian coin, ICCS approved, but clearly a fake!

I know of ONE 48 fake and ONE 45 fake. The 45 is ICCS !!
I will not post a link to either one. The 48 is in germany and will be looked after by the local Police there very soon.
The 45 is in canada.
Just search yourself for Canada 1945 dollar. You will find it stands out like a sore thumb.
HOWEVER, you must have another to compare of which you are sure it is real. But silver dollar fakes shall be another topic.Grrrrrrrr
i have 2 pictures. one of them with 2 1945 dollar, one of them a fake and recently sold by ebay Germany.
the other contains the 1945 currently listed on ebay...
should be easy....right?hhb

Nice job in schooling.... But in all fairness you did ask for grade... Had you asked for opinion on counterfeit it would have been obvious to the advanced Newf. collector...or anyone who follows the CCN.... But again nice job and lets hope it helps others....Remember not only Rare coins get copied ....
