So if I buy the coin and its sold as VF20 once I get it in hand I see its F12 at best I can return it? "THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE AN OPINION ON GRADES"
Sorry the way I read that policy is no returns.... I will however pose the question to the seller in order to be fair.

Hi Richard, ya I see where your going with this.. But in all fairness If you bought a coin that someone stated was VF and valued at 500.00 and you get it ,,Now you look at it and your opinion is F12 ( as you said ) but the value is 200. for F12..... OK so if you only paid lets say 60.00 would you still return the coin and complain ? You see this has happened many time to me and sometimes the coin is actually better in hand.. So in that instance do you return the coin and say Excuse me you undergraded the coin and its worth more? I know in either instance I would nt , but thats me

But if the seller will take it back then I have no problem with trusting them..

Artdio ... you are keeping an open mind and that is good. The generalizations we offer come from years of experience on the 'Bay and other similar forums. As always, buy the coin, not the holder.

In discussing this with you and anyone who views this thread, we attempt to highlight the pitfalls that new buyers may face. I don't think any of these responses are an attack on this particular seller. We just point out the red flags in the auction:
1. Coins in a basement slab from a company known to overgrade and slab problem coins
2. Poor pictures that do not allow the potential buyer to accurately assign a grade to the coin
3. Shakey return policy that requires potential bidders to ask for clarification.

Knowing the participants in this thread from years of exchanges with them, their motives are altruistic ... we all want a better/safer venue to obtain our treasures. Unfortunately the environment is getting worse rather than better, so we must continue to expend this energy.

I always tell a seller if I think they under graded a coin. Once in hand. I also point them in the right direction to find the info they need to improve their grading. As for Paying $60 for a $200/500 coin. I don't I would not bid on this particular item because the pictures are not clear as stated and the return policy implies grades are not an issue in the sale. I have chanced buying coins with bad pics in the past but usually from newer sellers. Some I have got great deals but again I will tell the seller. I have no problem returning a coin I paid $60 for if it is not as described even if the supposed book value is $200 I recently bought a 2 Cent coin that I knew to be cleaned even though it was not stated in the auction. I won the auction for $57 which is about the value of the coin in its cleaned state. The seller was extremely unhappy as he was under the impression the coin was worth over $150. I only buy coins I know at auction or on ebay. if my greater knowledge gives me a deal from a less knowledgeable seller then so be it. Its just as important for the seller to know what it is he is selling as for the buyer to know what it is he is buying.

In this case the seller will accept returns so if she could come up with better pictures I would consider buying from her.

"Sorry if the English is bad,,I am French..Ok then I say no returns,so forth. That is because many people think a coin can be purchase for inspection or resale and if not resold they complain and want money back...This has happen to me before .Person have coin for 3 weeks and try to resell on ebay , I know I see the coin..When not sold he wants money back....But I am very honest , I buy many coins from lady whos husband die., I do not grade coins , maybe give my thoughts .. But to answer your question..... Yes I will honor the return , I try to make all buyers happy, sometimes its hard, but I do my best..If there is problem , please just tell me and I can fix.. You see I never use the peoples money until I hear from the feedback they are happy..... This will satisfy you I hope...? Thank you for the question"

Hi Richard, thats pretty much what she told me , thats why I was not worried.. I asked the same question from other ebay sellers and got shut down on the spot... NO RETURNS period...... I have emailed the seller and explained that if the pics were perhaps cropped it would be better ... I guess we will see if she sells more.... Anyhow thanks this has been informative and fun..

Take care and happy collecting...

I have purchased a few of these slabs from e-bay. Understand that a ms-67 that this company has
graded the coin is not correct. I purchase these coin's break open the slab and sell them raw.
They are are a good deal if you purchase at a MS 60 grey sheet, nothing more.

Richard, I reviewed all the auctions that this seller has or had in the past 30 days ever since these coins in the slabs came out for sale.....I think the statements you have made are false and undermining.. This seller has not to this day sold any coin in a slab that said MS 67......... The highest I have seen is MS 65 and the buyer according to Feedback was extremely happy with the coin....

Sir if you say this then please provide a pic of said slab ......or of the auction # which you should have if you bought it from ebay as you say....

artdio, he never said he bought the 67's. He was just using that higher grade as a reference.

How long have they been on the market?

are you in some way connected with this seller? I don't care who the seller is or what ever but if you grade a coin MS-67 and it is in fact anything other than a MS-67 and you place the coin in something that resembles a Third Party Graders slab to try and fool a new collector into thinking they have been graded by a third party that has no interest in how much the coin sells for in a little on the shady side. I mean come on, its not like the coin is in a 2x2 flip, and the person is calling it a 67, they place it in these plastic cases to try and fool people into thinking it is something its not. I could understand if someone thought it was MS-65 and it was actually MS-63 or 63 but come on, MS-67 and it is MS-61 is starting to get very close to a scam. The reason most of us feel so strongly against these sellers doing this is because when the collector buys this crap and then come trying to find out how much their prized coin in a bottom basement slab is worth we have to break their heart and tell them it would be better to just break it out and spend it, no matter what they paid because it is nothing but pocket change and the plastic is worth more than the coin. This in turn turns these who could one day become a Great collector with a wealth of knowledge some time in the future into someone that isn't even interested in the hobby at all anymore

I am sure if he had these coins in a 2x2 with magic marker saying it is one grade no one would have any problem with it, but trying to make it look like it has actually been graded is preying on the unsuspecting collector

And richardschornak didn't say he bought from this seller, he said he bought those slabs. No reference was made to the seller. Listen to the advice all these experienced numismatists are giving you, artdio.

If I misunderstood what richard was saying I am sorry.. Yes I would agree if a person is doing that only to increase prices is wrong..I my self have purchased coins this way but only because I buy the coin not the slab.. Even ICCS , or PCGS graded coins I still remove them as I do not like any holders, slabs ect... And to answer Bryan NO I am not connected to this seller in any way....But I asked the seller many question as did another member and we both got the same answer.. Even though they state no returns, the seller openly said there is no problem with return for any reason...
That was enough for me to at least trust this seller... For some reason many people think I am new to this.. I'm 50 yrs old and have been collecting since the age of 16... I am no expert but I do have a great deal of experience in Canadian coins....... 1 thing I do know about those slabs are from what I have seen the grading looks very nuch correct and on some I would say even lower........

In all fairness guys, this seller does not call them graded, and makes no reference to them as such..There is no mention of them being from a TPG ...What amazes me is I hear nothing about the other grader from the US .. so called NNC now you want basement slabs and utterly ridiculous grading go check those out........
And you are correct Bryan , and I couldnt agree more..This is why I always say BUY THE COIN not the HOLDER ......
