My Day At The Philly Mint

Glad you enjoyed it Buffaloboy...I visited the mint in Phila last December. Next time you go, make sure that you go upstairs..they have windows that overlook all the machines that make the coins. Its pretty interesting.

when I was 6 I went to the mint in DC, but it only minted paper mony, and we dident get to see anything in action, but it was still fun!

great buy, bet it was fun. I would like to go to the one of the mints one of these days. Just have to convence my wife to take a vaction in denver or figure out a way to drive thru there. but great job on oyur new coins that proof set should go up in value since I beleave like many others that is the best 5 quarter they have made out of all the other states

Gary; I lived in Evergreen about 10 years, Bailey about 10 years and the Front Range, Lakewood, for 5. I lived on the Western Slope (Montrose) for about 8 months though and drove to Telluride every day. I know you know the route. I dearly miss the San Juans and taking our boat out on "The Blue". Hopefully, we'll be getting out of this Desert heat within the next few months as my Father wants to move to CO with us. In any case, we are looking at taking a trip "home" in August and would love to meet up with you at the ANA. I'll keep watching the forum and let you know. I made that round trip more times than I can remember. Mostly, I took the Gunnison Route and over Monarch! Oh how I am sooooooo homesick. I'm way off of the topic of this thread...just wanted to say "hello" to a fellow Coloradan. Oh, the CO Quarter is pretty. I voted for that one. I have the Proof Set and look at it every day!

When I think of the Philly Mint, I'm reminded of the first two Philly Mint buildings that no longer exist. The First Philly Mint, where it all started, was called "Ye Olde Mint", built starting in 1792. The 2nd Philly Mint began operations in 1833. Ye Olde Mint survived until about 1911. The 2nd Philly Mint was razed in 1903. At the time of their destruction, removal of both these historic buildings was called "progress".

Today, people like me express remorse over the loss.

I visited the Denver Mint in the summer of 2001, and enjoyed the experience greatly.

Maybe I'll be able to go sometime in the future. I certainly would like to. Glad you got to have that experience. Maybe you can visit the others too!!

Over memorial weekend there was the NCAA lacrosse championships and I went. To bad the mint isn't open on the weekends or on the government holiday. Ive never been there and its like 3 hours to getthere from NY
