I agree with ChetahCats, this individual ebay sellers pictures seem to make the coin look a little better than the coin looks in hand but if you would please take a picture of the coin when you receive it we would be more than happy to help with a grade opinion. from the pictures and going by another picture of in hand compared to this sellers pictures I am not confident this is even a AU coin, and my initial feeling is its probably XF instead of AU but it could be AU, as I said I would have to see a better representation of the coin to be able to even give an honest opinion |

I'd be confident it is at least an AU-55 coin in terms of wear. All details seem sharp except for slight softness or wear on Miss Liberty's head and the upper edges of the LIBERTY letters. The main question is whether it has been messed with. Please post your own images as Bryan suggests once you receive the coin. Hopefully it will turn out as nice as what the dealer photos suggest.

I agree with Jaobler. There is no way that coin could be less than an AU-55 detail-wise. Southern Coins uses lighting tricks to hide cleaning and improve the coin's eye appeal; but they don't manufacture extra details. However, I see no luster on this coin, and the glaring "brightness" of it would concern me about a possible cleaning that is being hidden. I browse GSC coins occassionally, and I'm always amazed at how much people are willing to pay for their raw coins.

When I blow up the pic. you posted, I believe I see wear on Liberties head,leg, and maybe the cap. On the reverse some of the wing tips and the left claw. But I'm by no means an expert. AU-55
As for the cleaning, I would say that it had been dipped at sometime.
But again I'm far from an expert.

This seller bought a whole_bunch of coins in the aftermath of Katrina(I remember him talking about it in auctions a few years ago), and I suspect some of his offerings have been "drowned" in the past. |

I wouldn't be surprised if the coin being discussed here has Mint State details - it's a great strike by comparison to some I looked at on Heritage while researching my post here - and a prime candidate for slabbing after allowing time to take its' course. Currently, the slight toning around the stars, date and reverse lettering has the feel of initial toning after a dip. |

First off, that coin almost looks Proof based on the detail. I could be way off on this, but it looks too sharp to be a business strike based on those photos. Second off, I don't care for the look of the surfaces of the coin (unless it's an unmessed with Proof). I'm thinking that is an impaired Proof. If it's a business strike, that is one heck of a hammered strike for a 20¢ piece! Also, if it's a business strike, it better have plenty of natural luster with the look that coin has (and I'm guessing it doesn't) otherwise that coin has been way overdipped.
I can't believe the strike on that coin. It screams PROOF to me all day.
I'm curious to know how did the seller describe the coin? Would you mind disclosing what you paid? You might want to get it in a genuine holder (most services will do this), especially if it's a Proof.

I would be confident in saying this has AU55 plus details as well, possibly UNC. But as everyone has warned, this seller does clean a lot of their stuff. And yes, you are correct for the most part, 20 Cent pieces (as well as Seated dollars) can typically get a pass on LIBERTY. LIBERTY is not to be ignored, just typically weaker so the same does not apply as the rest of the Seated Series by most people grading strictly by LIBERTY. |

that is a very nice strike! better when I blew it up..but I also am concerned about the cleaning...the luster is not much for luster....I too have bought from them........thats enough to say about that.....
still a beautiful coin!
