Copper is 9x denser then water. 5 gal of water weighs 40 lbs. The max then would be about 360lbs, but since pennies would not fill the vessel as efficiently as molten copper would (empty space between pennies) I would venture that it probably weighs 200 lbs and is $350 or so of pennies.

WOW! That looks EXACTLY like my friends bottle that was 25+ years old. If it's legit, there will some great coins in there for sure. I mainly grabbed a ton of 80's and 90's BU's from his bottle...but also a good amount of copper. It took me like 4 months to complete it. LOL

My wife and I took a 4 gal jar to the coin star this past December that was about 4/5 full and it netted us $168 and change on a best buy card. Funny thing about that coin star though, All the sidewalk wheat's I put in it were rejected  . But the modern Lincolns in the same condition went on in that thing with no problems. |

i just came back from unloading $56 in pennies, around 30lb, a yell from a cashier (i "broke" the machine from putting all of the pennies all at once even though 3 days ago I was told to put them all in at once), and a loss of $5.

That's a 5-gallon water-cooler bottle. The whole thing has to be in the hundreds of pounds, even at 75%-full. My sister who lives in California had one of these loaded with pennies in her house. I know they since moved and don't have it anymore, but I don't know what became of it.

so, I gave you guys all the info.. I am sure the auctioneer would entertain absentee bids on it... I am not in to US coins, only Canadian and German. I found the auction by sheer chance .....it will be sold on April 20... Looking at the quantities of cents in that bottle.... I am guessing there could be many High MS pieces , perhaps some rare stuff also... All I know, if I were a Cent collector within a 100 miles, I would jump at such an opportunity..., would buy it at whatever cost, search them all for rarities etc, put the rest back into the bottle and auction it off again. I would fill the bottle completely and perhaps have a contest type online bidding for fun. every bid cost a dollar etc... to guess how many.. every bid received at the end will then be entitled to bid in the final auction...... just fantasizing here a bit... |

I had one filled a little bit more a few years ago, only it was all denominations of coins. My bottle is plastic. It weighed just over 100 lbs. when I emptied it and rolled all the coins to take to the bank. It had $1300. and took 10 years to fill.

I'd say the weight is at least 300 lbs and I would guess close to $500 in cents. I would love to search through that.
