So are you going to buy the 2 nickels or keep searching?

Do you suppose after 2+ years and over 180,000 coins searched I'd be inclined to give up now?

Anyone of us could buy the entire set I've assembled in my Whitman for less than $30.

The very nature of collecting is setting goals, growing as you achieve them and sharing along the way. This quest of mine is a good example of that philosophy.

I will stick it out and someday find those last two coins.

Then we will have a grand old CCF Internet party!

Thanks for all the replies.

David

Enjoy the reports that you give on this forum, it is what got me into nickel searching. I don't do box searches. I go small at 10 roll searches. Every roll I break open may have a buffalo, liberty or who knows, it quite a ride this roll searching!

Just to blow your most difficult finds list out of the water...I pulled my 4th 43-D out of 68,000 coins searched this afternoon. I just chuckled to myself knowing you're laboring away for yours.

I'm waiting on the 55 and 50-D to show up...flipped over two more 1955's today only to find that despised D on the reverse. It'll come.

Indeed. Still need that one .... along with the 1938-S!

You are killing my Top-10 DylansDad ...... but ..... for you ...

I'm now at 186,000 nickels searches and have found eight (8) 1955 Philly mint coins .... so at the end of the day we will both have a great CCF party.

Keep on searching ..... I will not give up.

Has to have bit to do with geography...I'm in Iowa (Denver territory) you've got to be out east aren't you?

As for the pre-64's - they are nothing special in the nickel world; they haven't changed the composition of a nickel in about 150 years (except for the 1942-45 War Nickels which are silver. A lot of us hold onto them just because that's where they start to become a little bit rarer and they're over 50 years old.

Welcome!

Unless they are in my Whitman ..... or a 'special' coin stored in a tube ..... I 'store' my finds in those purple sacks that come with a bottle of Crown Royal whiskey (sacks donated by others of course )

David,
Please forgive me for thinking you had a drinking problem caused by looking at so many nickels. On a different note is there a twelve step program for coin searchers? Sincerely, John Leckrone

Nickelsearcher--fascinating analysis! I started keeping detailed stats at the beginning of this year. After 24 boxes (48,200 nickels) so far this year, I have nine slots still to fill. Tonight, I found the elusive 1943-D! So you never know what "treasure" a box will bring. Like I keep telling my wife, "it's quantity, quantity, quantity"

I need to free up some more "storage bags" myself. All these years I was a coin collector and didn't even know it.
