This thread reminded me of the Dos Equis commercials. They have radio versions that are entertaining, too.

That comment about the toxicity is interesting. And it should be interesting to the FDA and the FBI if poisonous materials are being circulated with the words IN GOD WE TRUST on them. Worth investigating in my books.

If I had to guess on most faked in the world, does that include slugs for quarters? I found a slug the other day in a parking metre. Good thing it got rejected.

Some interesting points in this article: http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis...ticleId=7067

One being:

Quote:
After five years the coin became so popular in China that even in the outlying provinces warlords were induced to produce in primitive plants imitation pieces with much lower silver contents. I had an elemental analysis done on the coins that weighed 19, 20 and 21 grains. They contained 25 percent silver about 45 percent nickel and a few other elements.

If a warlord produced his own coins in this manner, would that make it a counterfeit?

Depends what you mean by most - most faked by quantity or most faked by the number of different people faking them.

If its the most faked by quantity then the current British pound coin must be up there. The mint admit to 30 million fakes in circulation and others claim its up to 60 million! These are from just a few sources though - A single man was convicted last year of making 14 million fakes over 7 years!

If its by the number of fakers then it is probably ancient Greek coins or American coins from the early 20th century - the Chinese seem to love these!

I'll be adding to that thread soon - have some more on the way. Hopefully the photography will be better the second time around

don't think this would be the most faked coin but there is definitely allot of them out there on the market, that would be the Trade dollars both US and British Trade dollars. I think I have seen more fakes of these types than I have seen real ones. They range from crude to very well made as well

In the USA it would have to be the Morgan dollars #1, closely followed by the 1916D Mercury dime or the 1909S VDB Lincoln Cent.

I vote for British 1 Pound coins, every time I pull a random 10 out of circulation (in Central London) I find at least one fake. When I was in Scotland or up in north, I only found one fake in almost a week, that makes North somehow safer.

I was going to say the £1 coin as well... not as bad as London, but certainly worse than the northern part of Britain!
