Hmmm. Good point Adam.

Struck-thru or lamination?

I'd go with lamination.

Maybe this should have been a poll, too!

Not sure, I'd say lamination, but this looks a lot more damaged so,

I cast my vote for:

A Split Planchet.

Maybe a mint worker was chewing on a toothpick and laid it down on the planchet.

I like that seal! That's funny!

I'm starting to run out of room on my 2x2. I guess I'm off to Home Depot for a 2x4!

It does look like a chewed toothpick, doesn't it?

At first I thought it was two coins that must have been hanging around together for 66 years. Then I saw the singular title.

Oh, well. It's still cool looking.

Looks like a lamination error to me. if it was struck through a piece of wood I don't think you would see as much detail of the image in the affected area.

I'm thinking lamination peel. Same reason as Ziggy with the jaw as strong as it is. If it were a struck through, that area under the peel would not have been formed into the jaw area. The peel cam off and left the grand canyon.
