I like it as a VF-30, but Peace dollars are far from my forte.

I'm going with an AU-58. This is a great strike (a usual problem with Peace dollars) and aside from a few nicks on the obverse, it looks close to Uncirculated.

A Nice one!

Im with Moe, this coin shows just the smallest amount of wear, at least in these pictures.

A study on the high points of the coin really helps with the Peace dollar series. also knowing that they ( Peace dollars) were one of the worst struck up coins the US has ever minted doesn't hurt either.

I'm putting at AU55. This series is plagued with soft strikes. This 28-S is the exception.

Thank you all

I had to take a second look at this one. It is a good strike.

I would be happy with a VF/XF ..

This coin type is not the easiest to grade, this is a very nice coin. I agree with Moe AU-58.

Gold Rush - It's hard to assign a firm grade given the nature of the pictures. They show great detail. The direction and discoloration in the lighting, gives the Peace dollar a reddish tone making it difficult to see the normal wear surfaces on the coin. I detect a slight amount of wear on the Eagle's upper right shoulder (high point on the reverse). That definitely puts it within the AU category. Whether it's AU50 or AU58 wiould have to be determined with closer/personal inspection or more natural looking photographs. Regardless, it is a nice strike for a '28 dated Peace dollar and a nice coin overall.

Dcreek .. and all others that responded.

Thanks for the really good input .. I know at some point I need to set up a better way to take pictures.
I just put a desk lamp on them, hold the camera and shoot .. then crop and re size in picasa 3.

I just picked this coin out of the junk/silver dollar box, because I did not have this date and it looked like had good detail. And was $18.00 ....

I do not actively collect Peace dollars, just when I see they have put a lot of them in the junk box I check them against my list.

I'll just say 53-58. I cannot tell if the luster is strong or not
