I have a question about the 2010 sets. I was on the RCM website and looking at some of the different sets. I would like to purchase one of them with the magnetic cent in it, also I need a 2010 Toonie I have a specimen finish one already but would like to get a circulation finish one. The question that I have is this, if in the description of the set they have the metal composition for each individual coin. Does that mean for that set all the coins will be the same as the description states. I have noticed that some sets have the magnetic cent and some sets have the non-magnetic. So is the description accurate as to which one cent is in what sets or is going be a gamble on which one that I will receive. Thanks.

I have thought it was 6 pennies for the 2006 variety.
2006 P magnetic and non-magnetic 2006 M magnetic and non-magnetic 2006 no logo magnetic and non-magnetic
Im sure there are more varieties based on finish but wouldnt those be considered to be a complete circulation list ? I have 5 of them and with only one to go I still need the 2006P non-magnetic

I don't think that is right. The P means plated so the only ones that exist are magnetic since they are plated (P) steel

^ The 2006 no mint mark is supposed to be plated zinc, so non-magnetic. The 2006 P is supposed to be plated steel, so magnetic. The 2006 RCM logo could be either. A magnetic no mint mark, or a non-magnetic P, would be a production screw-up.

Quote: a non-magnetic P, would be a production screw-up that has happened. The 2006 "P" non-magnetic does exsist. However, it is very, very rare.

Ok so there are 4 deliberate variations on the 2006 cent & 2 mint error variations that exist. The Canada coins info section does a good job explaining the variations. Of course steel is magnetic while zinc is not. Minted Varieties2006 (no P composition mark) Cu plated zinc 866 Million 2006 P (magnetic) Cu plated steel 233,000 made 2006 RCM logo Cu plated zinc 176 Million 2006 RCM logo Cu plated steel 137 Million Mint Error Varieties2006 (no P) Cu plated steel unknown qty made rare? 2006 P Cu plated zinc unknown qty made rare?

Keep searching guys! I found my first 2006P roll searching not that long ago. It's posted in another thread I started"at last!" (I think that's what the title is.) So hang in there, there must be more around

Congrats collectall! I sort of "cheated" , I got mine on ebay, but then again I live in the US so I guess that can be excused. But seriously 233,000 makes that coin rather rare. But I got the impression that up in Canada with the exception of silver in change the average person doesn't know anything about the coins except you got Loonies and Toonies now. I mean seriously the reverse of the small change has been the same since the 1930's right?

OK, I have read and re-read this whole thread a few times now, trying to sort out the six varieties, and I think I understand them now.
Here is my question... without having the coin in front of you with a magnet in hand, is there a way to visually tell from photos if one of these 2006 varieties is zinc or steel? (Zinc=non-magnetic and Steel=magnetic, correct?)

The zinc coins are lighter in color and a lot lighter in weight than the steel ones.
