Nope, you are dead wrong about that dad.....the other folks here are aware of my beginnings when in April of last year I first heard of and actually saw my first Morgan dollar. Despite the names given to various sites, you are going to learn more about vams right here than 'anywhere' else, unless all you are interested in is 'how much is it worth'?

I am mistaken, and apologize, I thought I have seen your comments long ago, ALSO, you are "dead wrong", LOL, about the how much is it worth line, I have been collecting coins for many reasons, since 1963, besides the knowledge and beauty of the worlds coinage, I enjoy the hunt for the next unattributed Morgan/Peace dollar " VAM"!! PS, Enjoy the hunt.....

No need for apologies dad. Wow, 1963....I seem to remember something about the 1960's from a science class....was that in the late Cretaceous period or the early Jurassic? edited to add: "The hunt" is how you guys survived back then wasn't it? Today, the spear is now set aside for the loupe though (I hope).

Do not think your History lessons were absorbed to well, LOL, I am from the old school of thought, when something needs to be done, do it your self, if you can.... I am fortunate to of picked up my first Whitman 1941-Date, ( which back then was up to the mid 60's and had plenty of un-dated holes left over, I still have that 1st book and have updated it with some sweet BU'S and MS coins. I really did not have much of a clue when I was 8-years old, but I loved the designs on our coins. As far as the hunt back then, the "spears" are now hung up, next to the Remington, 5-shot shot-guns, you just never know...LOL...I like most still enjoy the hunt for the Morgan/Peace dollars and attributing them, IF I can.... I also, like most, collect many other things, coin wise, mint/proof sets, the Perth Mint has some wonderful series coins, along with some Canadian coins, and others, I keep myself deeply entrenched in the hobby hungry for any and all information I can absorb, which in this addiction/hobby is a very much needed tool, Good Luck, Mike.....

Oh, not quite 'that' old 'eh Mike? 'My' apologies then. So is it also safe to assume that your username does not refer to George T. ?
Either way, 'this' kid is glad that you are here, and looks forward to learning a few things from you.

I have a Daughter named "MORGAN".... I am humbled by your statement, I was up again last night doing some attributions, I found a 1878-S Hot 40 list VAM 19A,Die Cap Gouge,I-3, R-6. To me a very sweet coin to find laying around, I love this hobby, However the information available tells me the EDS and the LDS differ, but not by all that much( like some others), and I am confused.....The coin I have shows some EDS signs, and also shows some LDS signs, I am almost positive it is a 19A not the 19. EEERRRGGGHHHHH.... I did another till "the birds are chirping night", looking through the stereo microscope is sucking my eye sight by the day!! I just enjoy no distractions while doing this research, AAAHHHHHHHHHH!

Not that I could help you much, if any at all, but I would be most interested to see what you are seeing. Do you have ability to post a picture or two?

Photo's ERRRRGH... yes its also quite a game to get it right, I would think in general, if you have signs of LDS state that it would be an LDS coin, as the LDS would share signs of the EDS examples,,,HOWEVER as I did look last night on the VW, once again they love to entwine both states on one or both listing instead of clearly posting the differences..

Quote: I would think in general, if you have signs of LDS state that it would be an LDS coin, as the LDS would share signs of the EDS examples Now that makes sense to me. I had never thought about this, and I feel pretty foolish for not considering it before. Are you there Gene? I guess not.....

Zee you are CORRECT, any EDS coin will not exhibit LDS characteristic! and as you noted, an LDS state will have the EDS states also, I meant to comment on that before..great pick up!

That was 'your' quote, not mine. In which case, 'you' are correct, and you 'did' comment on that before. (Great pick up yourself).

I have been asleep at the helm, I will post these photos soon........PS, I also believe that a LDS coin would exhibit "some" of the traits of an EDS coin, I just do not believe all the traits would be so very apparently obvious. I also am of the belief that VW does not give ALL of the certain facts, they sometimes skirt the issue with generalizations, not as conclusive as I would of thought, but as the years go by, one would think knowing this topic is ever-changing and not a very precise up to date informative subject.......
