I have to disagree. IMO the toes are not visible, the top of date is warn. Check the gradings in the Red Book. I would say G-VG.

I would say VG, though the reverse is a little stronger

Try this link from heritage. No toes on VF20.

F-15. No way it's a G/VG in my opinion.

This is solid for Fine, probably F-15. I'd want a full date to give it a 20(though the rest of the detail is close), but it's a far cry from G/VG. Looks nice and original.

I'm with F15 to VF20. Tough to get the full dates on the pre-25's - there is some pretty decent wear on the front so I'm not surprised that the date is partial and toes are worn.

I like the toning/crustiness.

Thanks for your comments. I guessed fine condition when buying since the morse code(for the lack of not knowing the proper name) was uninterupted, rims were solid and the shield had all the dots. It appears to be in original condition also which is a big plus. nlp

Prethen, what makes you say cleaned? I am just curious.

The coin only shows dirt in the protected areas and the toning for me is major red flag. Coins with luster will tone like that. Also, coins that have been stripped (i.e. cleaned like this one) will also tone like that. Of course, I can be wrong and perhaps this coin was stored in such a way to make it look as such, however, I wouldn't want to own that coin.

Good point Prethen. When I first saw it I thought the toning was secondary but I decided it was either the lighting or how it was stored, Difficult to say but I agree that there's a chance it's been dipped.

Solid F-12. Too me, that coin looks like it may have been laying around in a canvas bag or elsewhere with other coins laying on top of it to cause it to tone as it has. I don't really see anything that suggests it has been cleaned or artificially toned. IMO

I sent this thread along to a very knowledgable friend (who occasionally comes by this forum) and his note was:

"VG Details - Cleaned"

Again, I'm not saying he's right, but the coin is questionable at best in my opinion.

IMO It does not look cleaned to me, I just think it was put in an album for a long time, and probably not a very good one
