We will be getting our money back but the seller said he did not know their was anything wrong with the coins. The Postal inspectors confiscated the coins and told the seller regardless if he is first, second or third party he is legally responsible for his actions. He is cooperating with their investigation. We have to sign a release/hold harmless agreement which is to say that what has occurred is a non event. Yes this type of operation has been been going on a long time and will continue. When it becomes personnel you realize, because your ambition to succeed, played a part and enabled the scam to affect more people. We have to be on guard always.

Glad to hear you're getting your money back. Have to be very wary of who you buy from.

Only thru networking and forums like this will people realize that unscrupulous buyers and sellers are only interested in making money. The seller that we bought from said he was unaware that the coins were counterfeit. He told me even though he made restitution with the people he sold the coins, there are serious legal issues that he will need legal representation which is very costly. We are very lucky that the coins came to us by mail. That is the reason we got our money back. Postal Inspectors got involved and since the mail was used to convey counterfeit U.S. Currency it is a crime. Had we bought the coins from a store or individual we would have to deal with them. In any event the coins would have to be destroyed. There is no legal way to possess counterfeit coins. Yes I feel very fortunate that we got our money back.

Please be aware that a seller from above the lower 48 has some very suspicious looking 1900 Lafayette and 1883 Hawaiian dollars. Reported to ebay. Ends in 6 hours. Please keep seller in mind.

They use private auctions to mask there scam. The buyers only hope is that ebay security or if they use the US POSTAL service there a chance for a refund or return of your funds. We need to be actively finding these unscrupulous sellers and add them to the no buy list on another thread. I never realized that this type of counterfeiting was going on. I was told that once a die was made or a casting depending on the quantity of silver (if any) added, the cost to produce a coin was less than .09 cents in quantity. Postal Service estimate. This type of operation is very profitable and harder to police than bills. These *###* are targeting us. We need to do something to protect ourselves. What can we do?

Thank you for concurring Wheezy that they are fakes. I listed all there auctions and reported it to ebay. I thought ebay would remove them right away but they haven't as yet. I need to calm down this has really caused my blood to boil. ebay's question, How do you know they are fakes? There is ebay's guarantee of a refund if not as described. This only gets worse. Is there any hope for an HONEST person.

It's good to hear that at the very least a little something was done to hold a seller of fake coins' feet to the fire. I learned quickly, when buying off the internet (especially ebay)to A) NEVER buy ANYTHING from China. And B) Always compare photos of a known legitimate coin to one you are contemplating buying. Most of the time the fakes just look 'off.'

Add large cents to this list as well. I encountered a fake 1850 just a couple months back. The seller said that he was unaware that it was fake and gave a prompt and full refund. I concur with mitchhailey...never buy from China. They may have free enterprise market reforms now days but they seem to still have commie ethics.

Hi All Just look on ebay. The Chinese have a FULL LINE of coounterfit US coins.... AND even though the sellers say they will come marked with the word copy they do not. I bought a bunch as hole fillers for my collections for the crazy expensive coins. I then had to buy a punch to mark the coins as they did not come stamped as the seller promised. The copies are very good can can look circulated or AU. They have copies of EVERY US coin series. BE VERY CAREFUL OUT THERE! Broz

Hi All, With out sticking together and policing ebay and known sellers we are at the mercy of counterfeit coins. With the prices of silver and gold driving up the prices of of our collect ables we all need to be alert. I have contacted two resellers on ebay that buy and sell coins and claim that they don't know if their coins are counterfeit or not. If they prove to be fakes will refund the purchase price less shipping. One said I only buy and sell it is a business. As a member of the forum said I notified ebay and I see that neither seller is listing coins. My son has a scale and micrometers and weighs and measures each coin he buys. We must be alert and helping one another helps keep our hobby safer.
