ya gotta love ebay.....NOT!! There is no doubt in my mind, that IS a 1917-S and I'd love to have it in my collection if the buyer doesn't want it.

Your photos are outstanding. No one should be able to say they can not see what they are bidding on with photos like that.

I contacted and asked him NICELY (hard for me, sometimes) if he would change the feedback to POSITIVE if I gave him a full refund and let him KEEP the coin at no charge. We'll see what happens.

There is no question in my mind that is a 17S. I have a few like that.
This is what I hate about EBAY- there is virtually no protection for the seller. You basically are going to let him keep the coin, swallow the loss in exchange for him to change his feedback to positive. That's very noble of you, but makes me seething mad that a buyer can get away with this. What's to stop him/her from doing this repeatedly with others? Block him from bidding on your future auctions and spread the word!

Can't tell if there will be any pattern- he's a newbie and has not left feedback for anyone else yet. They should make a rule that newbies cannot leave neutral or negative feedback, or maybe a rule that such feedback cannot be left without evidence they tried to contact the seller to work it out.

I think this is a case of an inexperienced ebay'er not realizing that a neutral has an impact on a seller. He only has 5 feedback. I don't know what he was expecting as you provided pictures that could not have been any clearer. I don't think this hurts your rep - if I saw this neutral, I would immediately discount it as a non-issue. I don't know what kind of impact it has from an ebay perspective, however.

There is no doubt that is a 1917-S. If a person cannot see that, they should try finding a new hobby Add another one to the heaping stinking pile of blocked bidders...

He may be a "newbie", but his ebay profile says he's been an ebay member since December of 2005...

Just some clown wanting a discount or freebie...wouldn't mind having (PM me) his user name so I can block him before he gets me.

Quote: Add another one to the heaping stinking pile of blocked bidders Yup, just added them to my blocked bidder list too. What a nut. I don't see how that coin could be anything other than a 17-S. Those pics leave absolutely no question in my mind as to what I'd be receiving in the mail if I were the buyer. You've got an outstanding feedback profile and I'm certain that comment will have no impact on your sales. Before you know it, that comment will be buried in a sea of green. If people actually read feedback, then they wouldn't keep buying from clowns like numismaticbureau or aboncom.

Interesting. Whenever I send a coin in the mail to a winning bidder I include a sort of combination invoice\packing list and I always write a personal "thank you" on this piece of paper. If the guy's last name is "Brown" I write, "Thank you Mr. Brown!" and then I sign and date it. On this particular transaction, there was no last name or first name associated to the payment. There was only a two part business name, (like Smith and Wesson...but NOT Smith and Wesson) which I assumed would be a coin shop or an antique dealer or something like that. I just went and looked it up on line and it's a CPA firm!
It has occurred to me that this might be retribution from some crazy ebayer that I went off on about a month ago, (and which I shared with you all...and which some of you wisely counseled me for my folly) but if so, why a neutral and not a negative...and why no hit to my DSRs?
I'm thinking my offer to refund and let him keep the coin will tell the story. If he does NOT have an axe to grind with me he should take my offer, right?

I know if I were given that offer, I'd jump at the chance. So what if I'm not too happy with the coin, at a grand total of free, you can't beat the price.

I was concerned that this guy would take a swipe at my DSRs. If he did, I wouldn't even know about until ebay updates them on 11/20. So...using their handy-dandy REPORTS system, I fiddled around until I found 10 buyers who had given me perfect 5s for all 4 categories and then I added this guy into that mix. Here are the results: He gave me 3s for Description and Communication but 5s on the other two categories. There was NO communication and none was called for, so I don't know how that rated a 3. I guess that in the final analysis he's just a goof ball and not someone bent on ruining me...

As an ebay buyer - the feedback he left you doesn't bother me at all. As a seller, I understand your frustration.
