VF-30-35 depending on luster remaining (can't tell from the pictures how lustrous/dull this coin is...) A nice semi-key Morgan with only 657,000 were minted!

With the amount of overall wear on the obverse I would grade it at VF-25.

I'm not very good with Morgans. My guess, and thats all it would be, VF-30

follow up questions.... what's a fair price for this coin? Am I best to list it on E-Bay? if so, whats a good starting price?... I've only ever sold silver at 'melt value' on ebay but as far as one with numismatic value I'm new...

G/VG and F/VF will not have any luster.
I'd say VF-30 on this one.

I'd say it is worth $60 to $70 more if TPG slabbed might be worth sending to ANACS

side note, a coin/jewelry shop I took it to said it had been cleaned... but that even if that knocked it down a grade, its still pretty valuable when he was reading his grey sheet. I thought cleaning effected coins more than this, secondly, I couldnt tell it was cleaned, but I have an untrained eye

Quote: just how much luster is supposed to be on a G/ VG or Fine or V-fine coin? Keep in mind, the pics are scans. Scanned coins need to be looked at differently from photos - the brighter the coin, the darker the scans will look posted here because that's how the scanner sensor interprets reflectivity. I see a scanned coin that might have been cleaned, only because there's less discoloration on the surfaces than one should expect from a coin with that much circulation. In any event, it is not right to deceive someone by forming concrete conclusions from such small images. You can't. VF30-35. Low-mintage, semi-key, and probably worth a little north of $100 if cleaned. The only good starting price on ebay is 99 cents. Nobody bids on coins with a starting price in any way approaching their true value, and it costs the seller more to list that way anyways.

I think that coin is worth $90-$110 at auction so when you back out grading fees, auction fees, shipping, you are probably looking at a net cash value to you of $60-$75.
Silver Dollar 1888S ICG 35 Cleaned VF Details, with very similar wear pattern to your coin, sold at a recent auction for $110.

For reference, too, Grey sheets have it at 150/160 in Fine and 160/170 in Very Fine. Hence, if it isn't cleaned, you could get quite a bit more than I had cited. Definitely worth sending it off to a TPG to get slabbed that will help you fetch top dollar.
