oh yeah speaking of canadian
if you find a canadian half dollar in your searches I am almost 100 percent sure it will be silver
they changed sizes when they stopped making them out of silver so in order for it to be rolled up in a US roll it would have to be silver
I think but I can't remember maybe someone else will quickly confirm that
I live in buffalo so canadian change is very prevalent up here
Also save your foreign stuff, if nothing else its really cool looking for the most part

Customer rolled halves is the best to get in my opinion. I have had the best luck with those. And ask for any and all loose halves also. I picked up 3 loose halves on Monday and all were 64 Ken's!

Today I went to my bank to get two boxes of pennies and asked if they had any halves. They said they didn't so I got the pennies and asked if they could order a box. Appearently, they can't. I decided to go to the Wachovia across
the street. They had 3, 1 dollar coins but no half dollars. Since I don't see these large dollar coins often, I decided to take them. One dollar is a 1971 and the other two are 1976's (bicentennial). I again went to another bank nearby and asked for half dollars and they had 3 rolls of them! I took the half dollars and looked through them and found 6 bicentennials and a 1972 with a hole drilled in the top. I think I'm going to make a Christmas tree ornament out of it.

Are the Bicentennials worth keeping? They seemed pretty common.

If you are interested in consistant silver, try dimes. I average 2 per box of $250. I don't search boxes of halves anymore, as monster hunters and too much competetion have killed the finds.

you need S mints. 1970D. 1987 p and d and anything past 2004. (ive heard 2001 and 2004 as the cut off date for circulated halves)anything before 1971 is silver. 1965-1970 are 40% silver (or .14792 oz) and anything before 1965 is 90% silver (or .36169 oz. So far the only halves I have not found in circulation is 196d, 1965, and 1987d. That is it. It is possible to find proofs in circulation. I found a total of 21 proofs while searching halves. I will agree that customer rolls are so much better then bank/boxes. But sometimes you cant get customer rolls so you get boxes.

Hello all. Funny...i have been CRH for some time. I never knew this site existed until I started doing some research on some foriegn coins I found, oddly not CRH, but nonetheless, it brought me here to a blog someone posted and I found this. Awesome. I am kind of bummed though....i bought my first full box (something I did NOT know I could do until this site, thank you) and it must have come from the FED. But apparently there's 2 other people in my small town CRH as all 3 of us went to the same bank in the same day and bought all the rolls they had! ha. Whoops. But, I did want to ask a question: What rolls of coins if any, are best to search for or are most likely to contain GOLD coins? I would guess pennies. 1/10th ounce gold or fractional? While my half dollar searching will never stop, it may be somthing I look into. thanks for the help.

Spot Price plus 1!

And as far as I have seen, I haven't heard of anyone on this forum finding gold from roll searching. And if they have then it is a major rarity. People are usually smart enough to keep a gold coin when they see them. Silver on the other hand get's away sometimes because people may not know the value and/or they may not know the coin is made of silver.

Plus, if there was a source where we could find gold, people would be searching those rolls like crazy until it is all gone.

I know of a a few hunters from another forum that have found gold coins roll hunting. Some hunters have found gold jewelry in the reject bin of a coin counter.
Many times I have found gold-plated halves, and dimes. I have also found gold and chrome plated silver dimes.

Wow, that impresses me. What kind of gold coins did they find and what rolls were they in?

Someone posted awhile back about finding a 1/10 ounce gold eagle in a penny roll. I've seen a few posts elsewhere reporting the same thing. I'm sure it's not that common.

There's also this https://goccf.com/t/98105 thread in the classic coin section, which I guess doesn't count as a coin roll but it pretty close.
