I know what you mean maineman, that "beginners luck" can sure spoil you but when you think about it, if you didn't have some luck early on you wouldn't survive the long droughts. I know when I started searching nickels in my first box I got a War Nickel,3 buffaloes and a 1938 in EF condition.I thought,"I'll have this whole set done in no time!" Here it is,4 years later and still not complete!

hockingzig, how many 2000s have you found to go along with your 20 1998s? They are supposed to be easier to find but I don't believe it.

I have only found 4-2000's. Bad Thad and I live about 2 hours apart and he has found way more 98's than he has 2000's. I think a lot of this is geographical.

I'm in south Florida (at least I thought I was until we had 28 degrees one night this week) and have found many more 1998s than 2000s.

I wished I was in Florida the other night when it went into the single digits! Love them WAMS, though. It's enough to keep you warm! I'm up to 10 on each of the 1998 and the 2000. I had to throw back at least a dozen or so total of each because of extreme damage or extreme corrosion. I do have to excellant 1999's, though.

Has anybody seen any pop reports on the 99's ? I hear people trying to discount them as bneing common, but I like facts instead of rumors. I've noticed an upward trend of prices on the 98's & 00's when I search ebay, but not enough 99's are sold to determine anything.
Yeah Hockingzig, that beginners luck was great...next time my daughter offers to help,I better take her up on it...just don't know whether to tell her 92 CAM or 99 WAM...only get one chance

I was wondering about which year 98-99 or 2000
would be the most prevelant.
Seeing as they ran these off for 3 yrs. it may be the 2000
that is the rarest of all 3.
Someone finally noted the miscue.
Even though all that I have found up here in the northeast
are 4 ea. 2000's I first thought the 98 and 99's must be rarer.
Not sure if the total mintage figures on all 3 yrs. period would help
as no one knows how many WAM's were minted. Do not know either what part of 98 they started minting that WAM. Could be a toss up between
the 98 and 2000. Maybe the 99 is the most common. If not, probably the 98. Furthur research needed I suspect.
Somebody get to work on this

99 is the harder one to find.
98 & 2000 are the easier ones.
Here in the west trying to find one is harder than getting a compliment from your mother in law. (Caps left off intentionally.)

Amen to that last statement Coop! Maybe the answer is divorce and re-marriage several times so you have a bunch of mothers-in-law,that way your chances increase....nah,forget that theory!

Indian1,the only attempt I have seen online to determine which was rarer was by Ken Potter. Actually, the article was on WAM's and his comment,in passing, was that the 99 appeared to be rarest with the 98 next rarest and the 2000 the most common. I believe this is the info that keeps getting repeated but Ken was only making an observation based on the number of examples on ebay and nothing more than that. His statement was not meant to be a definitive statement,it was simply an observation. I think the 98 is the most common with the 2000 next and 99 is rarest by far of the three. I don't believe we will ever know, but from what I see reported on this forum, and considering the amount of coin"processed"by folks here,a count(actually an "accurate count"not a competitive count)of what everyone has found might give us a better idea of rarity.I don't think there is a way to do a definitive assessment of populations.

Anybody ever heard of a 93 WAM ? One of our members mentioned it in a post. I've never heard of that one.

Never mind the 93 WAM...he figured out he was mistaken.
BTW...my found WAM count is (8)98's (1)99,(9)2000's and also (2)88 RDV-006
That's out of 70,000 pennies.

Sorry northwestseeker,I should have known that. At any rate, the offer still stands when you get enough posts(if you don't find a few of your own by then).
