Kennedys are my favorite coin, and my collection is complete.

I have also completed Roosevelts and Franklins.

Found a majority of the dimes in circulation.

Not a circulating coin, but the ASE's look beautiful in their album.

Whoops...sorry Gary! I guess I should have said that the Kennedy isn't that special to me (as I'm a penny collector as we all know) but, they are special to PJ so I'm collecting them for him. I'm finding some very nice circulated ones (much to my surprise) too!

I would also go with the Franklins. I'm working on my second set of those right now. Roosevelts are also a set that you can complete quite easily without spending alot of money.
I have also started the 3-cent nickel series also, but that one can get a little expensive.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Franklins seem to be doable in MS, are there any key dates I should worry about? Thanks

I'm also working on that set fengk. I am almost halfway there, you can get the majority of them in MS condition for around $15 each (with shipping, a little less if you buy locally). The key dates and the ones that will be more than $15-20 and probably have to get last are:

1949
1949D
1949S
1950
1950D
1951D
1951S
1952S
1953S
1955

The most expensive one of that bunch however will be the 1949S. You are probably looking at close to $100 for a MS one of those these days. Frankies are hot, hot, hot right now and the competition on auction sites are tough. The best way to find them would be to find a local coin shop if possible and buy them out first and then after that if you haven't completed then look for online coin shops and use the auction sites last if at all possible. That is my strategy so far anyway.

Go with the Franklins as they are getting tougher all the time and prices are rising as well. A set of BU Franklins are well worth the effort not to mention a nice chunk of silver and a U.S. classic. Last of the silver so to speak! I had a national dealer advise me this summer to start buying them up as all the dealers, on the national level, had already started doing so as they were about to explode into the next MORGANS!!! That is a price range I don't want to pay for Franklins so I pick up a BU coin or Proof now and then. Something to think about.
As for the Mercury dime series, well, I have a set except for one and can still say you don't have much of a collection or value without the 16D and in my heart I know I will NEVER pay that kind of money for one thin dime!!! Too many other great coins I would rather put my money into! I love the Indian cent but again find myself knowing I will never pay for the 1877 so the set will never be complete. Guess I am just to fond of silver and gold? Whatever you decide, and the choice is yours and yours along, take your time and enjoy the hunt as you only have to please yourself!!!

I actually stumbled across capped bust half dollar dimes while flipping through my RedBook. I think I can get a date set of them done in VG-F fairly easily. Only 9 coins, and no real key dates! Opinions on this set please? And see my post in the trade section wanting these.

I don't know how you feel about dollar coins, but it's not all that difficult, and not really expensive to complete sets of the newer issues in uncirculated and proof - Eisenhower ASE, SBA, and Sac.
Also, I didn't find it too difficult, nor overly expensive to complete my Franklin set, nor Kennedy set. It WAS a little more difficult trying to complete the WH halves - still missing that 1921D, and the Barber halves - still missing 8 of them - the keydates, of course.
Of those on the list you submitted, I'd say the Franklins would be the easiest to complete. - Ralph

I looked in the RedBook and saw a few varieties included. I guess if you didn't want to include those that would be a total of 9 but if you are a completist then you would want all 17. In G-4 condition only you are probably looking at $680. A set of Franklins, which there are 35 in the set, would be close to this same amount I think. So it really depends on what you like since they will cost you about the same. Good grade Half Dimes or nice shiny mint state big chunks of silver. Mmmmm.

Well now that you put it that way...I'll probably just do both. There's a big coin show coming up in October, and I'll see what I can pick up. The RedBook lists the 1949-s at $60 in MS-60 (I think). Seeing as we all know how reliable the RedBook can be, does anybody know of a more updated price for the 1949-s in MS?

$92 for a MS-63, not slabbed, on this website:

I don't know how much faith you can put into this one:

Here's a PCGS slabbed one for comparison. I have never been all that big on toned coins. They are kind of ugly IMO.
