Russ, that M is the wildest looking thing I have seen on a Morgan.... is the area circled in red a depression on the coin? What is the alleged cause of the extra metal in that M? The anomalies on both sides of the leg (and especially on top of the leg) are extremely strange..... (I smell fish).... or is it just another case of on line photo disillusionment?

This one has gouges on a 4 wreath clusters not just the second and third, and the M and E gouges. I Posted it and it is a Vam-1e Plus. I will be sending it to Leroy as I can't see Leroy leaving it out of the listing or description.

Are you kidding Russ? VAM 1E+ ?!..... Oh well, why not, we've go so many different forms of identification.... I imagine that if one is found with gouges on a 6 wreath clusters it will be either vam-1E& or vam-1E*.... maybe even something crazy like vam-1F..... I didn't notice the gouges...what do they look like? The reason that I ask about the gouges, is that a gouge (by my definition) is a pretty substantial scratch.... four of them on one die might indicate a certain level of inebriation.. Zee I gave it a plus, it will most likely be a Vam-1f when I get this one back. Jlee over there moved my photos of the clusters or to the V-1e as they are better. But 4 folks PM'ed me with the same thing "Leroy would not leave out the lettering in America in his listing, and if so it would of been put in the Description.
So this one will be on it's way.

Oh.....I see... I went back and looked at those pictures on VW, and brought one of them back.... I guess that I have been under a misconception as to just what a "gouge" looks like. Those things all have the same look to them.... something about how they do not mesh with the rest of the metal..... they look more like solderings..... but if there are more exactly the same, I imagine that they must be in the die, but WOW..... how interesting.... What is that stuff on top of the lower base of the E....pitting? Why has there been such an extremely sloppy job done of working on this die? I'll tell you buddy, to me, it looks like more of that pitting stuff that someone tried to dig and pick out with a graver.   Thanks very much for showing me that Russ...  |

I would not call what is in the M or E a chip. I also am reluctant too call what is going on in the M and E a gouge or a chip. The M is not a filled die like what you see in things like the 1902's date inside of the bottom of the 2. On this one the features run out both sides of the leg of the M almost like some sort of punch.
Weird is the only way I think of looking at it. Larry Briggs is at FUN so I can't ask him as he discovered the Vam-1e. As it is said the die is the die, this metal was never in the Original design. LOL

All of Longacre doubling stuff that seems to be associated with that wreath shot makes me think Touch Up.

Seriously Russ, I really do think the touch up (polishing and picking) was done in a moronically futile attempt to fix pitting.

I have little doubt that they sure would have used it if it was available......(but without an electrical socket to plug it into, they probably would have used it as a punch after they cut the cord off)... |

That being said the "M" on this one is the strangest thing I have seen. As the metal is on both sides of the legs. One has to Ask Why? was it done.
