Nice going, Matchbox. did you find the 2002 "regular portrait", i.e. not the coronation obv.? I'm not sure if it really exists. and the '82 small beads? and the '74 missing "S"? these are the ones I still need from the 68-10 series.

If there are varieties, I don't have them, just one for each date. As for the existence of a 2002 regular portrait, I don't think that exists, unless it was minted for proof sets but have never heard of one. As many of you know, I love my lists, and here are what I have: _1968 _1969 _1970 _1971 _1972 _1973 _1968 _1969 _1970 _1971 _1972 _1973 _1974 _1975 _1976 _1977 _1978 _1979 _1980 _1981 _1982 _1983 _1984 _1985 _1986 _1987 _1988 _1989 _1990 _1991 _1992 _1993 _1994 _1995 _1996 _1997 _1998 _1999 _2000 _2001P _2002P Jubilee _2003 (PL mint set only) don't have _2004 (PL mint set only) don't have _2005P _2006P _2007 RCM_2008 RCM_2009 RCM_2010 RCMand I also have the 1962. The silver ones will appear eventually and I don't think I'll go back any further than 1953 because of the cost per coin. Is there a crowned / uncrowned 2003 coin? According to various sources on the internet the 2002 was the last half-dollar to be minted for general circulation, minting 14,440,000. That's a bunch! The Royal Canadian Mint averages about 200,000 a year in the past decade. I've been meaning to make a list like this for the Voyageur dollars, Loonies and Toonies to see if I have them all. I know I'm missing one Toonie but maybe more as I'm going for varieties of the $1 and $2 coins. Thanks for reading. Ken

TwoCentsWorth try the Royal Bank. They seem to be very helpful for mint products and I don't even have an account there.
Matchbox congrats on the half dollars. Try and get the 1999P if you don't already have one. This one will may cost a bit but is worth the investment now as they are very scarce and will surely increase in value. They were issued as test coins for vending machines. Its nice to see Americans collecting Canadian coins. I collect both.

mcshilling, THANK YOU for letting me know that. I just ran over to ebay and discovered they exist. They have them available in specimen and silver proof sets. It's good to know this and I will get them. Appreciate sharing your knowledge. soccerdad, thank for letting me know about the 1999P and I'll be picking that one up also. I'm glad I started this thread so I know what to search out.

There is only one Queen for 2003. Other varieties are 1998W, 2000W and 2003WP. If you really like the halfs, it would not be too expensive to go back to 1937. The only pricey one is the 1948. It will run you about $200. From 1937 to 1967 you can get them for around $10 a piece. It is also good to know that in lower grades these coins still look good. It would also be nice to get one pre 1937 half as these are also beatiful. The final notable you need to find is the 1967. Good Luck

I asked a teller at a Royal Bank branch today if they had any rolls of 50c, he said nope. I asked if they can order any in.. nope. And I'm a customer! I ended up getting 40 rolls of quarters to search through, but don't get me started on that.... I'm slowly starting to think that quarters are a waste of time to roll search.

I've asked about rolls of 50c at a number of local banks, and NO ONE gets them in. Apparently, they're not circulation coinage anymore (according to 3 different tellers at 3 different banks!)

I went to the main RBC branch in town and asked for 50c peices and they had $25 dollars worth. (the smaller branches move non-circulating coins to the main branch) Nothing worth any more than face but I was surprised they had some. Apparently when customers bring it in they just keep it in the vault until someone asks about it. Now when I go there they check for me right away.

Canadian halves are very appealing coins. I pull them occasionally from the local scrap silver dealer's tub if they are clean and not worn. I am probably paying too much, but they are too nice to destroy. This is about half of my halves.

You can win a 1967 in my postcard contest. Just sayin' I have a lot of fifty cent pieces and pretty much two full collections from the beginning now. Not cheap to buy these days but the fifty cent piece really was the workhorse of Canadian coinage and some of the low mintages make them hard to come by in decent grades. I like the fifty cent collection more than my dollar collection. They are just nicer to look at imo. I know everyone oos and awes over a 48 dollar, but to me it's just another dollar sitting in it's airtight beside the 47 and 49's. Contrast this with the various versions of the 47 half and it's not nearly as cool to look at.
