Thanks everyone I feel like I have invested well with these coins. And I did not have to pay a fortune to get them. All comments greatly appreciated Alan

The 1889 was from INGS at ms 66. And 1985 was from ACG at ms 63 The 1886 was not slabed.

Your coins perfectly illustrate that third party grading companies use their **OWN** grading standards. By way of comparison, PCGS pricing for the 1889-P in MS 63 is (U.S. currency) fifty-six dollars, in MS 64, eighty-five dollars, MS 65, three hundred seventy-five dollars and MS 66, one thousand three hundred fifty dollars.

I plan to follow this thread as I have a 1867 nickel that is completely missing the S in the phrase "In God We Trust." Yours and my coin are very similar in that they are both completely missing letters. I am curious as to whether the omitted text would qualify it to be an error or just a minting mishap. I am relatively new to this forum also and will attempt to post a photograph of my coin this evening. I hope I can get the detail enough so that others will be able to see the omitted S.

I up loaded photos of some of my other Morgans and made a real mess, for some reason the photos kept showing the same photo over and over again LOL. But now I think I have figured it out. Rookie mistake but who's counting LOL Would like to see your coin. Cheers Alan

Strike through error coins (also known as filled die error coins) occur when a part of the coin die is clogged with grease and or a combination of foreign matter consisting of dirt, dust, saw dust, general debris or remnants of struck coins. This typically happens to the smaller letters and it is easier for these to fill with what looks likes grease smudge.
These are considered mint errors. However, to have your coin listed as a mint error with a third party grading company, you must request and pay for the additional service.

Hey Ozland Does grading add value to a mint error coin, or gust recognition And is it worth the cost and hassle of sending it to a TPG. Thanks Alan

Quote:Does grading add value to a mint error coin, or just recognition? And is it worth the cost and hassle of sending it to a TPG? The best answer here is it depends. It depends on what type of error it is. Lamination errors seem most prevalent. Grease filled are always interesting, but it a lot depends on the grade. If the coin is uncirculated, the error tends to make it more valuable. So yes it is worth the hassle. You have a way cool error and if it were me, I would have this done.
