Zee, I have been building furniture for a buddy of mine for the last 2 plus weeks... At times I had wished to die as he had a time frame that required 14 and 16 hour days. Add in the fact that he had done some base framing that was not plumb or square or level...almost half the time was spent fixing not building.

A fearless mechanic, a skilled craftsman, (you have to know how to build before you can fix... so I've been told), and a collector of the most interesting coins I've seen... You are a man for all seasons Russ.... I was only joking about the dead thing.....

I got the coin back from LVA and his ruling is VAM-9 with the c3e reverse. "Die chips are too small to be readily seen with naked eye and list." It was worth a shot. nlp

Two short diagonal die scratches between the base of the 4th and 5th outer feathers, four short diagonal die scratches between the base of the 6th and 7th outer feathers, and two short diagonal die scratches between the base of the 8th and 9th outer feathers of the eagle's left wing.

Do you see all of those scratches on your coin nlp?

Quote:
LDS specimens will show extensive die cracks on left portion of obverse and reverse lettering.

Do you see any of those cracks on the left portion of the obverse or reverse lettering?

All of those little scratches and left portion cracks can be seen with the naked eye, but the break on the right portion of the reverse can't be?

If multiple dies are used here (for classification), why are trivialities like cracks and short little scratches mentioned? Sounds more die is the die related than similarity classified to me.

This whole submission game appears to be much like pulling the handle of a slot machine.

Zee, I only can see a very light die crack through the top of N-I-T-E and it is ever so light. The obv looks crack free. There may be too much wear for the scratches in the wing. I'll hook up the scope later and see if there is anything there other than circulation marks. Funny thing about it is the fact that I picked this out of a roll of my own morgans while culling through them with the naked eye. hmmmm

All I can say at this point is that I am very sorry for perpetuating the high hopes... I now see the crack on the left portion that I did not see before..... This is a good lesson to me about keeping my big mouth shut.

Zee my friend. we can only start to process our Ideas from what is shown, many times those slight differences are not seen from the coin's photo's shown. yet with more close up photo's we can get a better understanding of what its not, and to gather more info to understand what it is..some coins can be attributed by the date and MM, others require as you know, more pictures that have greater detail of other points of interest...SO KEEP ON TALKING...

I understand what you are saying Gene, but I am not certainly admitting that I was wrong about anything other than getting hopes up for a submission that one might expect at least a slight degree of consistency..... but what turns out to be more of a roll of the dice type of call...... The LDS mentions scratches and cracks, so this description is based on a particular die...... this coin displays a break in a different area, so what is th...... oh, this whole thing is just so pathetically inconsistent, it leads me to a frustration level that I cannot deal with..... Eventually, someday, someone, or a board of folks will be challenged to fix this continuing mess, and things will then either be die related or classification related, but not both or either.
