That was a hard one to figure out.. it looked like a large date, then it looked like a small date, the curl of the nine didn't seem pointed enough..

Nice pick up Bill.

Great find Bill, I found mine not to long ago. The inside curl of the 9 on your coin does look a little blunt but the 7 sure looks high and LIBERTY looks typical for a small date.

Wild Bill,

WTG Great Find!!

Now that's TWO of us on the EAST COAST that just found a 1970S Small Date cent in rolls in the last week or so!

According to Chuck, (coppercoins) very, very difficult to find one of these in circulation on the EAST COAST!

The reason the nine did not look right to some here is in part because of a hit on the digit and in part because of the lighting of the shot. This proves to be a very good illustration of just why you cannot go by single markers to identify any variety. The 9 was the right shape, the 7 was short enough and didn't have the crease, the zero was the right shape and size. Everything matched up in the original photo for the small date except the pointy end on the 9, which could easily be explained by a hit and lighting.

And to add...these are extremely rare in change. So far my ratio stands at about 1 in 1.2 million. Odds of winning some lotteries are better.

WOW....the only time I got that lucky is when I had to pay for it....LOL

In my excitement to post the question, myimage quality was poor..sorry

And as Coppercoins remarked, there is a ding on the end of the curl of the "9"....this is all my fault with a lesson here for me if I can can control my excitement at 1 in the morning....thanks everyone

Wolf - You're welcome, I guess...it is what it is, not really backing anyone. Facts are facts.
