I'm not a fan of Whitman. I have tons of them. They are good for circulation sets I build for ebay, I won't put my keepers in one.

Quote: For me I think the Dansco albums are much better quality. When your just talking albums, I feel the majority of members here like Dansco ... the numbers are about 99 to 1 Yeah, yeah, yeah and we all know who that one is. The problem with this post is people are really again, mixing up Folders with Albums. And unfortuately Whitman with what USED to be whitman. For anyone that cares, in the past Whitman was bought out by the employees and they messed it all up. Then it was sold to Harris so Whitman is really Harris but they keep the name of Whitman since no one really likes Harris products. I have well over 100 Whitman Albums amd mostly all are from prior to the Harris take over. Sicne then, almost any one would have to agree they fall apart or sort of. Usually the front pages come loose and the coins tend to fall out of the slots inbetween the sheets. Possibly a savings on inferior glues. Quote: I recently tried putting a bunch of Mercury dimes in a Whitman folder - my fingers were hurting afterwards. I've since sworn them off If you've been reading many posts about Folders versus Albums on this forum you would have seen the reasons for this. Those Folders are made that way purposely. The holes are tapered so that the top is smaller than the bottom. This is done so once you get a coin in, it will not fall out easily. Many people use their thumb, a robber hammer, and some have told me they used a vise with a cloth to get coins into those slots. Then too that shinny stuff on the inside of the slots is glue left over from the manufacturing process. And remember that every time you open a Folder, your taking a chance of your fingers running across the coins. Folders can be OK but that is really taking a chance. I've mentioned this previously. I am or used to be a Whitman only person but it they continue to produce such low quality merchandise, I too will switch to Dansco.

I don't use either Whitman or Dansco, or folders or albums. I use 2x2s and a binder. Best there is in my opinion.

Oh and by the way I have one dansco and the remainder are old whitman albums. They work for me. My BU lincoln memorial set... all have a green line of corrosion along the rim (strangely past 1982 that is) in my whitman folder though

Really don't know why but ever since Harris bought out Whitman, their Albums have really gone down in quality. Maybe it's not Harris's fault but something is wrong. It is not just a fad that so many are switching to Dansco Albums. Over the years I've had almost every brand of Album made by many different companies since I get almost all free from a dealer I know. As a general statement the older Whitman Albums are rather sturdy and I have no problems with them. The ones that are newer appear to be falling apart almost as fast as I open them. My biggest complaint is the front piece of paper on each page sort of falls off allowing coins to fall all over the place. Regluing is not to smart unless you really know what is in the glue. Quote: Hey Saddam is it getting cold down there? Was that a pig that just flew by the window? I too know this is almost the end of a beautiful Whitman/Carl friendship. With well over 100 Albums and almost all are Whitman's, sure hate to start now going over to Dansco's. Kind of makes me mad that I have given away so many Dansco Albums in the past and now I might be swithing over. This is a really horrible event. As far a any Folders are concerned. As I've mentioned many times in the past, that shinny stuff inside the slots on those pages is glue. If it gets wet, it attacks coins.

Just keep getting use Whitman albums from your dealer friends. I am sure plenty of them will be the older version you have come to love.
