I'm thinking AU 55 for the scuff on the cheek and jaw. I also think you are going to resubmit with another service to try to get MS. The great fields, hints of orginial luster, crisp rims and strike, super, super coin. Oh maybe your going to return it because the dealer said it is MS?

I wanted to resubmit to try for 63, but after some of you said AU now I'm not too sure. I love the coin regardless, just kind of annoyed at the "in-between" grade of 62.

Huge difference in coin in hand and pictures, even nice pics like yours. I had a hard time saying AU because of the perfect rims and fields but the cheek and jaw look rubbed in the pics (to me). I wouldn't get too hung up on the grade and enjoy, that coin is a beauty.

That looks like an example of market grading a high AU coin into an MS holder. If it were truly MS? It's a 63 easy.

Well its hard to say grade wise as I cant roll it around and look at the fields/devices. So I would suggest you get another opinion from a few coin dealers/numismatists as a show. Cover up the grade and ask them what they think. I see some very light speckled toning on Lincolns jacket and something on the E in cent. But the fields look nice, the devices well struck, and lots of luster. Honestly its hard to say more without having it in hand. I can understand your frustration with a 62 so get a second opinion from someone you trust.

THAT is a nice coin.
Step back...and pretend that coin is a 1919. (remove the value associated from the S VDB).
Is the coin an MS62 or 63 or 64?
Believe a 62 is the correct grade. Does have a rub on the cheek. Do not believe it would go 63 for that reason.
VERY nice coin. Would be more than happy to have this coin in my collection.

I guess I'm the only one here who thinks PCGS got it right. It has the overall look of a 62 to me as far as luster and details are concerned. It may have a bit of cabinet rub on the tips of the devices, but not enough to knock it down to AU imo. I wasn't sure if there was a hidden problem which is why I said "details". If it were me, I would keep at as it is happy that it was correctly graded.

I still feel it's in the upper AU range. I would not resubmit it. If it were being sold as a raw coin, I'd bet most dealers would call it an upper end AU. Just my 2C :-)

it does have a light rub on the cheek......at least looks liek it anyway. I think the 62 is an excellent grade.

Thanks for the input everybody... I am happy with the coin, just wanted to throw the idea out there. To me, the fact that they graded it 62 means they thought it was nicer than a straight MS60, but not quite nice enough for 63.

MS-62BN is a reasonable market grade I was tearing my hair out over AU-58BN v/ MS-63BN on this one really comes down to an opinion on whether that cheek scuff is circulation rub or something that happened in a bag. On pennies, an argument can always be made to let the wheat stalks be the tiebreaker and on this coin they break towards MS.
