I love this aspect of being single. If I want to drop $1000 on a Seated dollar, aint no one gonna complain about it.

Quote: I wonder if it's considered infidelity if you're saving money behind your spouse's back? (I do that).
Your far from the only one that does that you know. I still remember after my first wife left and I got a letter from a local bank saying how sorry they were to loose us as a customer. I didn't have an account there at all. HMMMMMM.

We call it 'the stash' - I suspect she has one, also. I was going to use mine to buy some silver ounces a few weeks ago, decided against it. Aren't I the smart one!

Each of us has our own money, and we mind our own business about what the other buys. Both veteran bargain hunters who will proudly show off our latest "score". Bills get paid and life is good.

I have a shared budget with my wife. Both of us use a part of it for various personal expenses like hobbies. Sometimes (rarely) either she or myself spent more that should be spent... But the other one gets to know it soon so it is not an issue of financial infidelity.

I'm single, I'll never get married, and I'll never entrust my coins with any woman. They want diamonds, and gold jewelry, not coins. How many women you guys meet out here? My grandfather sold his entire collection because his wife wanted him too, and he took this advice from a woman that never got a drivers license, barely leaves the house, what does she know?, she can barely even hear. Now, he knows that was dumb, but to be a good husband in America, you apparently obey your wife. If I have a responsible younger relative who is interested in coin collecting they can have my coins when I pass. The kind of people Phil has on his show disgust me, because they are lost causes.

I voted no because me and my wife share bank accounts for everything but we each have a sub saving account that we put 10 percent of our income into for our hobbies, and any money you make off your hobbies is your money

Turnedd out to be an interesting thread. It seems there are two extremes of collectors (married), ones who tell all and the ones who have dark deep secrets! Glenn

+1 YES My wife has informed me on many occassions that her dad taught her how to "rat hole" money away; old coat pockets, books, taped under tables, etc... I used to get mad about it, but those rainy days have been coming around more frequently since my "military service obligation" of 24 years has come full circle.
My coin habit has been funding itself for years. If I want something bad enough, I will sell something, kinda like a one-for-one swap.

My wife is easy to deal with, unlike some women. She knows I'm good with money, so she trusts me. In fact, I take care of most of our financial matters. I could spend money behind her back, but I'm a tightwad! We both grew up kind of poor, so we're careful with money.
When I told her I was buying silver, she really wasn't mad. She was excited, even. She's always liked sterling jewelry. Also, she knows it will be easy to sell if we have to.

Wow. I have to say, NO, not at all. We both know what we spend on our hobbies. When we had money, we would spend what we had on each other. We didn't want to spend money on ourselves. You must keep in mind that I found the PERFECT wife. Just after she said that she would marry me, I said we should start looking for a engagement ring, she said, and I quote: "I'd rather have a High Definition Television." Yes, the perfect wife. If that doesn't convince you, in 2006, I was looking at the car of my dreams. I went to the dealer and was ready to order MY car. The more I thought about spending $80,000 on myself, the less I felt like I could. I walked out of the dealer and called her on the way home and said I couldn't do it. She asked if it would make me happy to get the car. I said yes and she said "Just go order the car!" I went back and ordered the car built to my specs, put down a $5000 deposit and 4 months later, I had my 2007 Lotus Exige S. It's gone now, but what a car! If you ever want to feel what a race car should feel like, try on a Lotus Exige S. She only drove it once because as she puts it "It scared the heck out of me!" and she's no light weight driver. Her car at the time was a 2002 Miata Special Edition. The Lotus was fast, 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and would pull up to 1.1 Gs in a turn. Click here to see my car http://www.flickr.com/photos/kostyn...616603519652She even started buying coins last year and is better at grading than me. So do you agree? Did I pick the right Wife or not?

I don't keep it from the wife. Most of the time she is the problem when buying coins! But not in the way most people will think. I'll carefully weigh a purchase, sometimes for days, and usually end up talking myself out of it. The other day she asked to see a coin I had been talking about. I told he I ended up not buying it. So then we had to go to the coin store while we were out and she had me show it to her, the she announced that I should just get the coin because it was a nice coin. Another time I was wanting to get a Panda but was balking at the price (all $46 of it). She told me to just get the Panda. :-D
