You could be right TSOTL, but everyone who wants a complete set of ASE's will have to have this one reguardless of the price. It will all depend upon which level of collecting you are into so far as ASE's go.

The reverse proof is the only one they'll need this set for, the other two you can buy alone. So far anyway. In any case the mintage is 250,000 and that's a far cry from the mintage of the 10 year set. The proofs from many years in the mid 90s weren't all that much bigger mintage wise and although they are the higher priced of the series it's a long way from the 95W.

Keep in mind though I don't think it's gonna be a loser. I never meant to make it sound like that, I'd love to have a set myself. I just think it's overhyped. I'm sure it's gonna bring in bucks sometime, just not as much as many folks think.

The mint website is still accepting orders, at $100.00 flat. This is the FEderal Government, if they have to they will mint more. I'm going to order @ 100.00 and just wait a couple months. I want the reverse proof AND the uncirculated ASE with the W mint mark. I might send mine to PCGS to get graded.

Because there are only gonna be 250,000 of them and, so far, this is the only way to get the reverse proof. If they don't sell out all the sets that means there will be that many less of them out there and anyone who wants a complete set of ASEs will probably want that reverse proof in the set.

Supply and demand.

people are already paying a premium over the 100 bucks you can get them for at the mint because of the limit of 10 per household so I think if these sell out completely they will definately be one to watch, the AGE is a major score, I saw a set of PCGS PF and MS70 selling for $13,250.52 on ebay already and its only been a monst or so since their rele ASE

Fedex left a note on my door saying they will try again on monday....darn I could be looking at my 5 Silver sets right now. but I have to wait till monday.

So I ordered 5 more sets, becuase I think this will be one hot issue. Plus I hoping for some (last strikes) as oppesed to (First Strikes) that might have some die damage. I'm looking for less than perfect coins, keep your 70's, I'll take a nice strike thru, die gouge, or rotatred reverse on a proof coin anyday.

Error

This is a quote from the US Mint

"For proof versions of the American Eagle Coins, the yield is an average of about 300-500 coins per die set. This means that coins may be minted from new die sets at any point and at multiple times while production of a coin is ongoing, not just the first day or at the beginning of production."

So, waiting will not necessarily mean more errors - right? When they are struck makes no real difference, except that the first few off of a new die set should be really nice and the last few off the set not quite so good. In theory anyway. This is why the "First strike" designation is such a farce.

Of course I know that the coins in my sets would never go PF or MS-70 so I'll just leave them where they are. From what I have seen here and elsewhere, everyone seems to be breaking up the sets in hope for such a coin. That means sets in their original packaging will be even more rare in the near future and in high demand. LOL.

BTW, Hi Old Dan!!!

These high prices are for First Strike coins and not the regulars.

Check out the NGC MS/PR 70 sets. They are going for $2000 - $3000 and they don't do the "first strike" scam.
