We must have missed that episode but  , the book value shows for AU55 $4,500. I wonder if they would take it to someone else or find someone else to grade it one higher. Its value would then jump to $7,000.  |

It's a reality show, so contrary to the name, many things are staged or scripted. I suspect some prices are in that category, although I can't say this one is for sure.

It seems like they are paying more money for most items lately. Probably has something to do with them making millions on the show....

I agree with OneBowl, when I saw the preview I checked the price Pawn Stars offered and he was spot on and knew too much about the history of this coin not to be staged, this is just a spinoff of Antique Roadshow and totally bogus.

I have a 1882 $2 NFLD gold coin - how do I found out the value?
I also have an English gold piece from 1913 - there is a picture of a warrior with a sword on a horse.
Bother were given to me by my grandfather earlier this year.

Hello, Hockeyspy and welcome to the forum! As you are probably aware, the value of coins can vary drastically depending on their condition. If you know nothing about grading, your best bet would probably be to take them to a coin dealer and ask them, or you could always post photos of the coins on the forum, and CCF will try to grade them for you.
To give you a general idea of the value, the 1882 $2 NFLD gold coins can range in price from $250.00 in Fine condition (a coin that has noticeable wear) to $6000.00 in MS-65 (virtually flawless).
I'm going to assume that the 1913 coin has a letter 'c' above the date. If it does, this means that the coin was minted at the Ottawa mint in 1913.
The 1913c ranges in value from $900.00 in VF-20 to $7000.00 in MS-64. This is a very scarce coin with a tiny mintage of just 3715 pieces. Unfortunately, many collectors don't consider these coins to be part of the Canadian decimal series, and thus the reason for the low prices. For instance, if this were an American coin, it would probably fetch $50 000+ in VF-20.

Maybe kitkat, but not all US coins with a super low mintage are worth that much. I am getting an 1883 US 3 cent nickel for $275 in VF, and it has a mintage of 4,000. |

Not at all, there are other coins with much higher mintage that are worth more in the same grade. I find that popularity counts for at least as much as mintage.
