That's the difference between MS64 & MS65. Sound a little crazy ?

I doubt CCCS or PCGS would grade that coin MS-65. The bag marks are in the wrong place for that coin to be that grade, in my opinion.

The fields are clean though, and as per the ICCS usual, that is good enough for MS-65. It's a nice 1938, but I am skeptical that it's the best one that could be found.

Please forgive me! I am confused on this one and dont normally follow the trends on older coins. The Charlton Catalogue has this 10 cent MS 65 listed as $500 for trend. $650 is the asking price and glenzy says it is listed at 65 % of trends. Could someone please clarify?

Thanks

LOL, hello darryldarryl, I know it is confusing, however, the Canadian Numismatic "Bible" that most Collectors/Dealers buy and sell by is The Canadian Coin News Trends. This is a bi-monthly news magazine that has all the most recent prices listed for Canadian decimal.
The Charlton, on the other hand, is issued every July (once a year, as a result prices do change.
The current C.C.N. trend price on this particular dime is $1,000.00 and if you purchased it right now @ that price you would acquire it at 70% trends. (after paying tax and shipping costs)

Would this coin get the same grade if it was toned?

This coin was probably "Toned" before (as a wise man once told me about MS coins) it was "preserved" back to blast white. Just ask the "Dot Dime"..........LOL

Wow! Very surprised to bidding for this little beauty stop at $162.50 with the reserve not met.

That's because the coin is not MS-65 and people realize it, and that's probably what it's worth.

People are starting to realize that if in an older (water marked) ICCS holder they are well graded, newer ones....ummmm nope IMO

Sorry, I was wrong earlier. I said that bidding on the '38 dime stopped at $162.50, when it actually stopped at just $102.50.
So no one was even willing to come close to the MS-63 price on this one. Even if it's not an MS-65, it should still be atleast a solid MS-64 IMO.

This is just another example of how soft the market is right now.

So, if the market is soft right now, this is a good time to buy? Assuming the sellers are willing to sell.

Please help me to understand... why is the market soft right now? I was always thought the market is what people are willing to pay... no?

Yes, the market is what people are willing to pay. Right now, however, people are not willing to pay anywhere near retail for probably >95% of Canadian coins.
