Smoking bothers me sooo much, that I would never want a T.P.G.'d coin within my collection reeking of cigarette smoke. Therefore, repeat business with that seller would be out of the question!

I'm worried about the damage it could do the coins, not just the smell. I've repaired computers from the homes of smokers, and let me tell you, it's actually sorta terrifying seeing the accumulated orange fuzz and grime on the inside.

My smoking days ended at 14, when due to lack of funds decided to make my own cigarettes: pencil shavings rolled in newspaper!

Not surprisingly, I didn't get to the end of my first cigarette!
Perhaps I should have volunteered in the Bush Fire Brigade!

My father used to go through 40 a day, and stopped because it was costing him too much. He just stopped. No withdrawal symptoms, or other problems, he just stopped. Never smoked again, not even one extra.

I know of an old guy who has smoked for more than 60 years, no problems at all, but,

sadly, I have lost an aunt to emphysema, and a good friend to lung cancer.

I smoke and hate the odor. Surprises that you could detect it on a coin after packaging, mailing, etc. Maybe the odor was on the packaging more so than the coin.

If you are smoking around me, make sure you plan to share those ribs or chops. I'll supply the baked beans if you like.

I smoke, on the verge of quitting. Going the Chantix's route. But I know
The smoke attaches to the fibers of Mint Boxes, Your cardboard box, enevelope, paper all absorb smoke, Its amazing the damage it does, and yet I'm still smoking. SF
Captinwifo makes a good point, I also do some computer repair, and know exactly what hes talking about. Its amazing how it can build up to the point where it locks up a fan. Its grotesque. When I hit it with that (Filtered) compressed air and that ship starts flying everywhere, I can't help but to laugh.

I used to collect comics (in a limited way) and I looked for "non-smoking home" in listings. I had to return some that should have been mint but were damaged from being owned by a smoker, even through the bag. Replacing the bag and board didn't do anything about the smell.

Here in Canada a package of cigarettes cost between $10.00-$14.00 Can$. If a person for example, smokes a pack a day (which I'm sure there is someone out there who is doing it)that adds up to a whopping $3,650.00 per year. Can you imagine how many coins one could with that amount of money? (or at least one AWESOME key date piece) And the way the economy is going today, you'd be able to buy scarce coins at 60% trends which would stretch that $3,650.00 even further!

I quit 10 months ago, I can smell it from 100 yards away now. It doesn't bother me in the slightest.....as long as I don't smell like it anymore, who cares.

Don't smoke and afraid to even want to be near one. A few years ago some doctors told me I had stage 4 Cancer. After massive operations and several bouts of Chemo, I couldn't even imagine why anyone would want to go through that by smoking.
All it shoud take to make people stop is visit a Cancer treatment center. One look at the people there should do that.

Interesting thread! I'm surprised you could smell smoke on a parcel; maybe seller blew some smoke in the box before sealing it up - sorta blowing smoke up your coins!

I quit 37 years ago, when the doctor asked me if I smoked, I said "yes", and he replied "That's too bad". Quit that day, never had another, but weirdly enough, I dream a lot that I smoke; my sub-concious musta enjoyed it...

I don't smoke. However, it doesn't really bother me when people do; it's their life. And yes, I know that other people smoking costs me more in the long run in insurance premiums. At some point smoking (or retail cigarettes at least) will be legislated out of existence or too costly to purchase.

That said, I don't like receiving merchandise that smells like stale smoke. Generally it's the paper mailer that absorbs the smoke and smells. I collect other things besides coins, and it can make a big difference to me in baseball cards and other non-metallic collectibles.
If I smelled smoke on the stuff I bought, I'd think twice about repeat business.

I don't smoke and hold my breath when I walk past one.
I once went into an Arizona coin shop and all four people in the store were smoking and the PCGS coins were discolored! Everything in the shop smelled bad.
I have nothing against smokers but man, I don't see how they just don't go outside.
I never went back to that shop. I get ebay coins once in a while that smell like cigs.
