What would have been a knock-down-drag-out "keep your filthy hands off my coins!" thread on just about any other forum has become, as expected, a thread of cooperation. Man, I love this place!

Well, it's not a Morgan. That would have been....different.

Well, we've established territories then. SuperDave gets all the toner Morgans, I get the Mercury dimes. Moe, are you happy with Seateds? If you've got domain over the halves, you have to give the other denominations to somebody else. I suppose we can give darkside stuff to wwhitman.

If somebody else REALLY wants a blue Merc, there's also this blue proof 1939 over at Heritage going down tonight, as well as this pale blue 1937 proof and this green and brown and blue and purple '41 proof at later auctions.

WHOA!
That Heritage went for $230!
Way over the $86 I expect this one to go for!

And being relegated to the 'darkside'. Gee I was trying to come out into the light!

The proof went for exactly Numismedia FMV for the grade. The mintage numbers for Mercury dime proofs aren't that big, so it seems like a not-unreasonable price in supply/demand terms.

Don't worry, there's probably plenty of nice USA stuff for you. You can have the toner Barbers if you want, I won't fight you over those.

Dang, that really blue nickel is up to $160 already with 5 hours left! Numismedia lists a FMV of $30 in that grade. I'm glad I wasn't after that one...

That's silly. It's all one color; you could probably AT that with relative ease.

I know it's silly! It's up to $200+bp now, for a coin that lists at $30! I also know it's not an uncommon color for older proof nickels (I've seen several just like it). Apparently it is caused of the kind of packaging they used at the time. It would be one thing if it were an extremely rare color, but even then...

I was going to throw in a 20ish dollar bid on the thing, cause hey, I like nickels fine and it's purdy, but dang... $220 now as I type this...

Heck, I'd even throw $60 or $70 at in on a stretch, but $220 is absurd.

Yeah, Teletrade is a rip off retail operation masquerading as an auction house.

Really? I hadn't gotten that impression at all. I see gold go for melt there all the time...?
