Awesome set barryg! Congrats! Like you, I had no clue as to what a "7070" was a until I found CCF. 2+ years later...I now only have 2 holes left to fill. (both Seated Liberty dollars btw)... I've upgraded quite a few holes while in the process of attempting to fill it. Something I promised myself that I would NOT do...lol In the world of coin collecting...my first love is Lincoln Cents...but my "mistress" is my 7070.

Congrats on completing the set. Looks like a nice set to me.
Don't worry about wanting some of the coins to be better.
Even if we had the money to put together a complete 7070 set, in uncirculated coins, we would still say ... I want some of them better
Good job compelting a hard set to put together in any grade

Great job the album looks amazing. It is one of my goals since it is like the history of US coinage right in one little album. I am slowly amassing coins for mine before I buy the album. I am also going to put the silver bicenteinial coins in my album I am going to use proof issues from my birth year in the lincoln, jefferson, roosevelt clad and washington clad holes and wanted to split up the commemoratives with half silver coins and half clad coins. I have the clad coins already. I also would want to get really nice examples of the cheaper coins the problem is that they might look weird next to worn coins. All the albums I have seen look great though. Can't wait to start my album is the main point of this ramble. thanks for sharing the pictures, you did Great

Congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment. I actually want to start a 7070 but everywhere I look they are sold out!

I actually did a Google search and bought mine online somewhere. Wish I could remember where, but there were plenty available from a variety of sites.

very nice, I know people that have been working on the 7070 album for many years and still aren't finished with it. I got to the point I am at pretty quickly but hit a brick wall when all my money was being used in other places but it is still waiting on me to finish it when the time comes (I have 2 more coins to complete the album, the only difference is I do have the Gold page as well)

Great job! I have been working on mine for about a year and a half. Got some ikes and kennedys from my gramps that got me started. They are the worst worn coins in my 7070 but they are the best too. Put in there what you want. Have most of my coins in there as XF or above but still need to fill the early half and large cents, the capped quarter and the two Seated dollars ... Yep all the expensive stuff! My 20cent piece is fine not XF. Read a year back on the forum here that the cheapest you could fill this album was $2400. Not for the faint of heart. Great job!

Thanks, guys! Part of me worries that I rushed too much and either ended up paying too much for some of the coins or else settling for poorer examples instead of waiting until I could afford better ones. And, of course, I learned a lot while assembling the set and have since come to understand that some of my coins are obviously improperly cleaned. Still and all, though, I'm happy with it. I don't know if I'll ever get around to upgrading the more expensive coins in the album [I'm looking at you, Seated Liberty dollars!] but I can certainly see eventually replacing some of the less expensive coins like the Half Cents and large cents some day.

All right, I was debating whether or not I should post this (please don't hate me because I'm beautiful...) At the end of September, when gold dipped more than $200/oz to around $1600, I convinced my wife we should invest in a small amount of gold in case the prices bounced back up. We both agreed we couldn't afford to buy a lot, especially since the price of gold could remain stable or even fall further, but maybe a few ounces. Well, I said, if we're just going to buy a few ounces, we should probably hedge our bet by getting some nice quality gold coins that will still retain some extra value even if the gold price does plummet back down to historic lows... And so, I present one more page in my 7070 album:

Great set barryg. I have been contemplating purchasing a 7070 album myself for the past few months. I even made it as far as buying a mint set from the year of my birth to start off my album. Then I lost my job and things got put on hold. For the time being, I am been scratching my itch here at CCF by looking at other people's coins. I don't know if it is helping me though or making it worse.

Yeah, well, finding out about the 7070 album was probably the best thing that ever happened to me, collecting-wise. It really helped me come up with a focused goal instead of simply buying any coin that I thought was cool, and it also let me know which coins were the ones I really needed to focus on. Half of the coins in the album I hadn't even heard of before! I'm going to try and hit my first ever coin show next weekend and I plan to bring a bunch of coins for trade in the hopes of upgrading some of the lesser examples in my album. With any luck, I'll manages to snag a better quality "Classic Head" Large Cent, Two Cent Piece, Silver Three Cent Piece, Shield nickel (w/ Rays), Liberty Seated half dollar w/ Arrows and/or a Barber half dollar. I doubt I'll be able to find/afford all of those, but maybe a few...

My problem is I grew up with date sets, and now after getting back into collecting after some 15-20 years away, this is the first time I have seen a type set instead of date. It seemed weird to me and not like something I wanted to do. But to be honest I have been warming to the idea a lot lately, and after seeing this thread, I think I may just have to take the plunge. This will also, be my first actual album (if I go for it), as I have only been building sets from circulation in folders or keeping my nice stuff in flips in a binder.
Thank you for sharing your set!
