Quote: "The best dealer is you local one." So what does your local dealer ask over spot for bullion, eagles, etc.....? As compared to APMEX, Silvertowne, etc....?

Yeah, it is different. I haven't really looked the new site over enough to know if it is an improvement.

I have to agree, check your local dealer first. I have been wanting a couple 1 oz. Maples in Silver for a while. I checked e-bay for days and put about 20 auctions on my "watch" list. The cheapest Maple went for $37 and that was before shipping, insurance, etc. Went by my local dealer and picked up two nice maples,(1989 w/young queen, and 1995...year of my daughters birth), both sealed in plastic for $4 over spot,(that was at about $32 that day). After tax, Walked out w/two nice maples for under $75....... try that on e-bay!

I am going to try my local coin/bullion dealer.I talked to him and got his number. When I want to buy, just give him a call, pay 5 over spot and he will deliver once a month. Payment on delivery. He also said he will buy them back when silver gets to 100. Silver Maples are the way to go.

Guy called to ask if we sold silver. While I was loading the price page, he said he was looking for maples. I throw this out to Canadian posters: Do you or your fellow PM buyers commonly look for ASE?

honestly if you willing to haggle and feel confident enough to discern real from fakes easily, E-Bay, pawn shops, or craigslist are the way to go. ebay and Craigslist have gotten me the best deals percentage wise. Its consistently 30%-5% under spot. Try my first pawn shop yesterday and I could not really complain. They had some eagles and I talked them down to 1.5 over spot. More then I usually pay as I am the kinda guy who only wants to pay under spot. But at a buck fifty over per oz I couldn't really go wrong either. However the haggle method takes a lot of effort to get the sweet deals. Often for bigger trades it takes a couple days of negotiating before we both come to a price. However if you enjoy doing it (as I do) then its by far the best way to get PMs.

I think I'm pretty lucky. I buy locally-no delivery, no minimum purchase, very personal. I pay 3 percent over spot to buy and can sell back the same under spot. He always has stock and from what I have heard on other sites/articles some are having problems with availability esp since silver came down in price

I use Miles Franklin. Their premiums vary, but now they're @ $2 above spot to buy and $.40 above if you're selling to them.

biggfredd: in my limited experience ASEs are just as popular here in Canada as they are in the States, the problem comes with the higher premium charged for them here when compared to maples. Know quite a few that chooses the shinier maples over ASEs based on price alone.

It just struck me as odd that a US buyer who specifically wanted maples wouldn't just ask for them up front.
