I bought it from APMEX. By the time I figured in the shipping costs and the wire transfer fee (on top of the rather stiff premium over spot value for a numismatic coin), it didn't seem like such a great bargain (at least, not to my wife). Basically, I ended up paying around $1840 for a 1 ounce gold coin when gold was at $1600/ounce. Still, I'm not complaining!

I bet it will be a heir-loom. What a great treasure.

Congratulations on a beautiful coin. Hang on to it if you can and most likely the price you paid will seem cheap in 10 years. They are beautiful coins and always in demand.

That is a beauty! Earlier this summer when gold was at $1600 I was just about to take the plunge but I decided to wait and I regretted it, but now that its almost back to $1600 I am seriously thinking about doing it. Im thinking about the earlier double eagle or this style. Thanks for giving me some motivation!

Really nice. Can you imagine telling someone back in the early 20's or even the 30's that you paid that much for a coin? Evem odder would be to tell someone in the 1800's about the prices of that coin.

Don't mean to hijack this thread just_carl but gold was actually pretty stable through the 1800s up til the early 1930s when the government confiscated all the Gold and Gold Certificates. So, 1920s or 1800s would be about the same.

Beautiful coin there. I am jealous. All I can afford is silver sadly.

I have a 1924 (common date) in AU 60. I bought it when gold was around $400 /oz.
I just had to buy it, because it has such a fabulous design.
Mine has a tiny problem in just the wrong place. It has a tiny bump right on the point of Lady Liberty's nose. Makes her face look a bit like that of a monkey. Nevertheless, it is still a reasonably pleasing coin.

Numismatic gold is great......you have history and precious metals all in one.

Looks very choice for an AU; I don't see any wear really. The strike is sharp and marks are pretty light for a large gold coin. Very nice. You'll never regret taking the plunge for this coin.
