Hi, I have tried my best to research this coin but with no luck. I assume it is of Meiji 3 (1870) era, but I'm unsure of the pattern etc.

Any help that could be provided would be most welcome. Thanks :).

EDIT:- Also if you could help with any of the following coins I would be most grateful.

#5 looks like a CHINA / Republic - General Issue Dollar (Yuan) Yr. 3 (1914) Y#329.

There are several different varieties depending on the edge. Although the date is year 3 or 1914 these Yuan Shi-Kai Dollars were struck continuously through 1929 and wee also restruck by the Chinese Soviets. Later again in the 50's the coin was struck for use in Tibet. These large Chinese yuan are also popular with counterfeiters

#1 isn't a coin, it's what is known as a "temple token", from India. This page on Zeno.ru shows several kinds of Hindu temple tokens, many similar to yours. This one is the closest match.

#2 I suspect has been ground down to make a "love token" or similar personal item; I believe I can see traces of engraved writing on the "blank" side.

#4, also shown in the original pics, looks similar to "normal" type 1 silver yen coins, ecept the central sun has been replaced by crossed flags. I'm not aware of crossed flags like that on any Japanese coins.

Just to provide some more information on the 'Japanese Yen'.

The crossed flags symbolize Japan becoming IttoKoku, or a world power and were used by the army and navy. Ref: http://books.google.com/books?id=Vw...7wwDeNvZmiHA

Although the coin seems of high enough quality after a little more study I'm inclined to think that it maybe a fake (see pictures).

Oh my god, please do not show that Meiji 3 1 yen coin. It's screaming I'm made in China, not made in Japan. Firstly those flags represent the Republic of China - it makes no sense why it's even Japanese in the first place. Secondly the details of the dragon is just too wrong. Lastly, patterns of the Japanese yen were only made in the Birmingham mint if I am not mistaken.
