Found this last week,my nephew took the photos and he is getting better at it every time don't you think?
It looks like a class 6 DDO to me ,what do you all think?
Pay close attention to the photo of the mint mark.
Thanks much,
John1

I don't see any extra thickness on this coin...additionally, class 6 doubled dies are impossible on a single squeeze press. Those haven't been made since 1996.

The darker lines you are seeing on the rdge line are a combination of lighting and stacking rub or coin wear.

Hey John,

I haven't seen any of your previous photos but, his close-up shots are great.

As for the DDO I'm not yet skilled enough to know either way. But I do suspect that as both the date and the mint mark exhibit a similar doubling that it may not be a genuine DDO.

That said I look forward to reading other's take on the coin.

Happy Hunting

The Hand punched mint marks ended in 1989 so doubling on the date would most likely also show on the mint mark after then. just for your info

Really nice photo. What lighting does your nephew use?

Thanks Richard,

I was wondering about that after my post.

Hey Guys,
I'm John1's nephew. I use a digital microscope with 8 onboard LED's, with the exposure time set at about 40 and then I had to use 2 more remote (offboard) filtered LED's to get rid of most but not all those pesky little shadows.

i have to know how you put a background like that on a picture. Q#2 do you crop after you uploaded a coin to the computer or right on a camera. Thank you

podoprigora,
That's just the mat that I use to take my pics. No cropping involved.
Thanks, Jay
