looks large to me. But don't base any decisions on what I say.

On the Large Motto the D in GOD is narrow. The stem to the right leaf shows plainly on the Small Motto but there is no stem on the Large Motto. The T is TRUST is very close to the ribbon crease at left on the Small Motto, but there is a 1 mm gap on the Large Motto. The Small Motto is also relatively scarce. Yours looks (to me) like a Large Motto. A VERY nice Large Motto!

Yes, this is Large Motto. And it looks uncirculated (the color looks a bit odd, but I think that's just the photo).

That looks proof to me, if not proof its a high MS grade. $85 - $600 Red Book price.

Well I just bought it.....can't quite put my finger on it but there's some thing about these US 2 cent coins that appeal to me... Paid $95.00.....will keep my fingers crossed for a MS grade.. Appreciate all the input....

I couldn't have bought this coin based on these pictures. The color is off. Probably a nice coins but the photos make me suspicious.

trdhrdr007.... that was my first thought also about the color. Bilbo also mentioned color.. and I think he is right about the lighting. After looking at lots of pictures of Proof 1864 2 cent coins I believe that AMFCook is on the right track with this being a proof coin as the picture from the auction more closely resemblies that of proofs.. I will post pictures of this coin after I receive it.. No matter what it turns out to be I am very pleased as this is one of the nicest 1864 2 cent coins I have seen...

I'm not an expert on 2 Cent pieces & I don't play one on TV. I do require better pictures than the ones provided here before I'll make a buying decision. Better pictures or the coin in hand could show my opinion to be 100% wrong. Having said that here's my thought process on this coin, which I believe to be AU. I doubt it's a proof because of the Cuds between 12 & 2 on the obverse. I suspect one of 3 things because of the pictures. The first possibility is that the lighting is bad. The second is that the coin is that color due to cleaning. The third is that the photo was lightened or otherwise altered in an attempt to make the hits below CENT & to the right of UNITED less obvious. If I had to commit to one of those it would be the third.

Here's the obverse of my small motto for future comparison. I like the detail showing on the one you won. Hope you're happy with it.

Awesome coin Penny Guy... .. Thanks for sharing.. Can't help but notice the lighter color on your coin. Yours and close to 50 others that I have researched all have this beige / tan color tone as a base and then the natural darker patina which has developed over time. I will have to wait until I receive my coin but I'm hoping that the pictures by the auction company are very close to the real colors of the coin. What ever the out come I'm very happy as I have been looking for a while for a nice example of this coin... Thanks again & nice Small Motto....

I'm not impressed with the picture of the MS65 either. I'd say having 2 bad pictures from the same auction makes it more likely their photography skills are lacking & the coin is fine. I'm not generally comfortable throwing out my opinion based on a questionable photo, my intent was to explain the thought process behind my opinion. I'm really trying to work on my photo interpretation skills. As it stands I'm hesitant to purchase anything without quality photos & I feel like I'm probably missing out on some good deals. I only have a few 2 Cents but here's a few bad pictures I took of them. I don't have a photo of my 1864.
