Maybe I'm finally legally blind, but something looks fishy to me about that coin.

It does look very grainy. How did you come to acquire this coin?

Hello Hippieoutcast, what do you think is fishy about it ? The coin was given to my Father in the early 70`s from a relation in New York when he was on holiday then, and has been lying in a box ever since. Feels like a solid coin to me !
But as I say, I dont really know anything else about it

I believe that to be the lighting as far as the different look.It has though been polished before as you can see in the fields compared to the lettering areas. It does seem to have pretty good details and I would say it would be worth around 40 bucks U.S.

Hey Braveheart.

I'm no expert, but I've sold a few counterfeit coins with that same gray-black color near the edges. It's rather hard to explain... but just looking at it something is not sitting right with me.

It does have some rim dings to hold it back from a higher grade but I believe it to be real.

Thats a pity if its fake... I would add I think my father carried it in his pocket for a few years, and He was not a coin collector so if it has been polished, it must have been done over 40 years ago.

Great replys everyone ... Interesting !

Like I said, don't take my word for it...

I'd hate for it to be a fake too.

Looks better to me, it was that slate gray making me uneasy. The scan looks 100% authentic (in my feeble opinion anyways)

Carrying it in a pocket would certainly cause the polishing and the rim dings.
