I got a couple of orders at once yesterday. One of the orders that has been showing different potential shipping dates all came together--well, sort of!

Anyone dealing with the mint knows they send you an e-mail for each shipment with the tracking number and contents. Fair enough. I got two boxes for one order, shipped the same day. Now, any moron knows FEDEX has a different tracking number for EACH parcel. How else could they track it?

Soooo, there are 15 ASE W UNCs, 2 GOld 4-coin sets and my 5 ASE 20th Anniversary sets. BUT, I got one e-mail. No e-mail for the second box.

The issue is I want to grade the 20th ASE's, but not the rest. Simple enough? Call the mint and ask what is in what box.

After telling them that I never got an e-mail for the other tracking number, she proceeds to tell me that BOTH boxes have the same tracking number!! Of course she could not explain how they could find the other box if only one showed up and showed delivered.

So, I proceeded to read the other tracking number to her. I was told she didn't have access to tracking numbers.

Realizing that I was dealing with a total MORON that didn't have a clue about shipping, I said goodbye.

The solution I found was to call PCGS and NGC and explain the dilemna. PCGS told me to send it all, tell them what to grade, then they would ship the whole thing back when done.

NGC, had a better solution. They will pull the Anniversary sets for grading and IMMEDIATELY ship the other stuff back at my expense.

BTW-NGC told me 3-4 weeks for 20th ASE sets.

The only problem I see with this is that you are unable to verify that you received your complete order before sending it to the TPG.

Personally, I don't like what they're doing with grading the 20th sets. Suppose you get coins with flaws? You can't decide to send them back to the Mint and you can't make the decision whether the coins are worth grading. I personally feel that this is a huge scam on the part of the TPG's. They are getting paid to grade a lot of coins that wouldn't be submitted if the submitter had the opportunity to check the order first. Just a little food for thought.

I agree with susan, would not be the first time bad coins are shipped, has happened to me several times whereas I returned the "defective" coins back to the mint for an exchange. I know many people like seperate shipments in seperate boxes that way you can say "originaly sealed by the mint", however in your case I would open everything up, eye ball them all, then decide on what to have graded. In the way you are doing it, you are leaving yourself open to get ripped off IMHO--Check them out first!! might save you lotta doe--In the future if you want seperate boxes for individual items, order them days, even weeks aprt, that way what happened to you won't happen--My advice only mind ya, it has worked for me many times--

Exactly right! That is probably the real reason they insist the package be un-opened. Lately it seems people are becoming more interested in the labels on a slab than the coin inside.

The problem is that the TPG's will not pedigree a coin as 20th Anniversary if the box is opened. The only coin they will do that with is the reverse proof. Personally, that is the only coin in the set that I would be concerned with getting graded anyway, but that's just my opinion. I think the reverse proof coins are the prettiest coins the Mint has produced for a very long time.
