I sold a coin on ebay last night. Buyer paid through PayPal. Buyer's address is an Army Post Office box. The last line (containing the zip code) reads like this: APO AE 09012

The AE stands for Armed Forces Europe. When I went to create the shipping label (postage) it popped up a notice that I have to fill out a customs form! The customs form had a number of REQUIRED (won't let you skip over them or leave them blank) fields, including the phone number of the serviceman who won my coin.

Have any of you ever had to deal with this? Not sure how to proceed. I sincerely doubt I can get a phone number for this buyer.

Any help will be appreciated - thanks in advance!

I filled out the customs form at the post office. Delivery confermination will only show when it left the US. I have never lost anything going to an APO AE address.

It's not the fear of the item being lost in the mail that worries me. It's the fact that I may not have all the info they need for the customs form...

The customs paper custom form does not have a requirement for a phone number. I have never had to put one on or had any problems.

I've dealt with APO shipping before and wouldn't choose to do it again. The soldier was from a base in CA but had a shipping address somewheres in Europe. It took forever for the servicemen to receive it and I almost had to open up a paypal dispute because of it. Why they need your phone number? Good question but I know that UPS needs a phone number when shipping to Canada from the states. Good luck with it.

Since APO/FPO addresses are often in foreign countries, they require customs forms. The base commander needs to know what's coming into the camp.

The phone number is to aid delivery. He may not have one, but the base does.

I've always put my own number in that blank. Never had a problem.

One last potentially stooopid question. I can't do this without taking a trip to the Post Office, right? I mean...I can't just fill out the customs form on line and then print my postage, affix it to the envelope on toss it in a mailbox...can I...?

If at least one item is priority, you should be able to get free pickup.
