Yesterday, a lot of 7 Buffalo nickels that I bought on ebay arrived and a coin that I thought was a no-date in the ebay picture is actually a 1914-D. Nice except it doesn't have the same tone as the other coins so I'm thinking it was cleaned.

What do you'll think?

That amount of wear to the rim and a 4 digit date tells me that
sat in vinegar for a while. Still better than nothing.

Rats, I hoping someone would say that it is naturally like that sometimes. It would've made me feel better about the buying spree I've been on this week. Darn ebay :P

Do you think the grade would at least be a good (so worth $60-ish)? And I think I read once that if you leave a coin in the sun it will gain back some tone after a cleaning, is that true?

Restored with either vinegar, or PCB etchant (Nic-a-Date). Key-date restored date buffaloes usually go for a lot less than G4 prices. I'd expect a restored '14-D to sell for $10-15 on ebay.

Still not bad considering I spent 4.50 for the lot
