Oh look... Another set ready for sale by the US Mint soon. https://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/w...62&langId=-1Hmm... Big question is that a West Point or San Francisco proof? Might be worth having if it's a S-mint proof. (Yes, I know, it will PO the flippers and speculators, & cause wholesale cancellations of the special proof set, it's a good thing in the long run for collectors.) I never read anywhere that either of the coins in that set was an 'exclusive' one time only offering. Interesting how the special sets dried up the last three years and now they are all back with a vengeance. 3rd one this year and the uncirculated dollar set is coming back too. Gotta mine the wallets of the faithful to make up from feeding the Feds pennies and nickels!

That kind of kills some value of the 2012 SF set.....more S proofs on the way

It kind of sucks that it's a s mint ASE, but since I wanted the 2 coin set for the rp I don't really mind. I don't particularly care for the frn so I feel like I win because I'm getting 2 proof ASEs and never planned on selling them anyway. So this is probably good for collectors and bad for speculators.

While the idea of the coin and bill together is actually a great one, this particular set is stupid.
So were 3 years late on the 150th anniversary bill in the set and now were doing a 220th for the mint? Are you kidding me?
Not even to mention the just complete over kill theyre doing with all the S coins this year and now only one of the coins in their "special" set is unique making that set even less special.
Its over priced as well now they just seem to be doing things to do things

So much for 250K mintage on the 2012 ASE S-mint proof. *POOF*! Thanks for that, U.S. Mint!

Quote:So much for 250K mintage on the 2012 ASE S-mint proof. *POOF*! Thanks for that, U.S. Mint! Exactly. I find it very underhanded that they allowed everyone to believe those coins were only going to be available in those sets and then as soon as ordering is closed they release one of the coins in this new set that they knew they were going to do all along. At the very least this should have been listed during the ordering period of the other set so that everyone would know

hi. was wondering if the coin in this set has the S mint mark or will it just be minted at SF without the S mint mark ? I must have missed where it said it would have the S mint mark

I must have missed where it said it would have the S mint mark Good point it could potentially be different without the S mark. I havent seen it say that it will have the S mintmark but would assume it would. The description does however imply that it is a SF ASE where it says Quote: This 2012 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin not only honors the artistry and design of our Nation's coins, but also honors the heritage of coin production at the United States Mint at San Francisco.

Looks like it will be an S-minted ASE of some kind. Could be the proof, could be the generic bullion coin that's minted there. I don't see "proof" anywhere in the description, so it's anybody's guess right now as to what it might be. The unlikely 3rd option is the S burnished coin. Given the high price of the set, $73, my money is on a proof of some sort. Even more unlikely options are the reverse proof and the W proof. Interesting product.

Well this creates a bit of a delima for me. I picked up a second of the two coin sets on the last day when it looked like there would be two low mintage ASEs. Now it looks like only the reverse proof will be special. So do I keep the second set for the reverse proof or cancel it? On the bright side I still have a good while to decide on the second set.

Thanks Bizy for the heads up on this set. I share the view that this will be very bad if this is an S mint mark proof. I don't know if they listen when people email them, but the mint has a comment page where you can send them a comment or complaint. http://www.usmint.gov/contact_us/?a...=formContactI just sent one and inquired if the Eagle in this set will be S mint mark proof, and I added "if it is, I just want to know if the mint is trying to systematically PO every single collector of mint products in the US with your choices lately." It's probably too late for this set, but if everyone contacts them to complain now, maybe they'll get the point sooner and do something about it. Just sayin'.

At the very least if enough of us complain hopefully we can prevent them from having these deceptive practices in the future. Whats next the S RP being sold on its own later this year?

At the risk of being a naysayer...They don't care if you complain...all it does is prove that there is a market for their shenanigans...The only way to make them think is to not buy their product....IMO

They did listen to the special set complaints though and gave the mint to demand. Hopefully they wont put a mint mark on this one but they probably will. Definitely a shady move on their part
